Information Legal Centre (ILC) was established in 2002 with an aim to improve the protection of human and civil rights of disadvantaged population through provision of free legal aid, monitoring legal regulations, gathering information on protection, violation and exercising basic human rights, developing cooperation with governmental bodies specialised for ensuring civil equality and through protection of victims of criminal offences and minorities with special emphasis on Roma national minority.
ILC’s professional legal staff provided over legal advices in the office or during field visits to 6 Croatian counties, positively resolved court and administrative procedures. ILC provided additional legal advices to Roma population, represented 280 Roma in administrative procedures and obtained documents through regional cooperation in South-Eastern Europe. As Croatian Ombudswomen’s regional contact point, ILC is monitoring discrimination cases in the east of Croatia. ILC will build on the experience gained from the program “Legal Inclusion and Sustainable Integration of Roma in Croatia” funded by UNHCR from 2012-2018 and from the National Programme for Croatia under IPA - TransitionAssistanceandInstitution Building Component for 2012 from 2015-2017.
During the past 3 years, ILC’s professional staff provided over 400 services (information about rights, legal and psychological assistance) to the victims and witnesses of criminal offences, 44 victims were accompanied by the person of trust to the courts and institutions (police, state attorney’s office) and held 27 meetings with institutions in order to enhance inter-sectoral cooperation. As Croatian Ombudswomen’s regional contact point, ILC is monitoring discrimination cases among the victims of criminal offences. ILC will build on the experience gained from the program “Network of Support and Cooperation for Victims and Witnesses of Criminal Offenses” funded by the Ministry of Justice from 2018-2020. Additionally, ILC is currently implementing Interreg Central Europe project “Arrival Regions – Exploring social innovation approaches for the social and economic integration of non-EU nationals” CE1277 and ESF funded project “Empower, motivate and activate yourself”
