I am a chartered architect, both British & European citizen. I have developed a project in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, which I plan to call "Saving Historic Funchal - No 1". I would like to begin from a "pilot project" of restoration of a complex of delapidated historic town houses in the centre of Funchal and adapting them, together with development of a disused plot of land behind them, into a retirement village, model of which I have worked out and plan to invent as a basis for further projects of this kind. Most regretfully, the beutiful historic Funchal is "poluted" with large scale contemporary characterless commercial buildings while the original ones remain empty and neglcted causing historic Funchal to loose its character and charm. The restoration of the historic buildings and putting them in the good use would also provide employment and support the economy of the island of Madeira.
