Kubilay Boya
Looking for Partnership
Kubilay Boya manufactures wide range of high-quality paint and coatings to be distributed to both domestic and international market. The main specialization of the company is wood coatings. Additionally; industrial coatings, UV curable coatings, polyester coatings, paint thinners as well as mirror-backing paints are also produced in its facilities in Izmir, Turkey.
The R&D team of Kubilay Boya currently consists of 1 PhD, 4 MSc, 10 BSc and 3 AS level researchers. Paint and coatings research is an interdisciplinary subject, it combines chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer science and technology and materials science. Our team in Kubilay Boya has chemists, chemical engineers and polymer scientists, reflecting the diverse nature of paint and coatings. They are specialists in design and scaling-up new formulations, chemical and physical analysis of wet paints and dried coating films, resin synthesis, structural elucidation methods including Gas Chromatography and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy.
Since its first production back in 2005, Kubilay Boya participated in several R&D projects supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK). These projects include Toluene Diisocyanate (TDI) Prepolymer Synthesis, Environment-Friendly Low-Lead Mirror Backing Paint, Epoxy Acrylate Oligomer Synthesis. Furthermore, studies to develop an antiviral wood coating system which has efficacy against enveloped positive-sense single-stranded RNA viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19 are ongoing at Kubilay Boya R&D facilities.
Kubilay Boya’s academic advisors are distinguished in their respective fields of research. One of the academic advisors is Prof. Dr. Yusuf Yağcı from Istanbul Technical University, who is well-known for his contribution to photochemistry and polymer science. He shares his knowledge about UV-cureable coatings and polymer science in general. Other academic advisor is Prof. Dr. Güngör Gündüz from Middle East Technical University, widely known for his several books about paints.
On top of paint and coatings experience of Kubilay Boya R&D researchers, each of them with a postgraduate degree has secondary research interest besides paint and coatings. For instance, one of our researchers is working on metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) which are fascinating materials due to their designable crystalline structures, ultrahigh porosity and surface area as well as ease of tunability. These unique properties of MOFs make them ideal candidates for sustainable applications such as CO2 capture, methane and hydrogen storage, catalysis and drug delivery. He worked at the laboratory of Prof. Omar M. Yaghi, a pioneer in the field of MOFs.
Another PhD level researcher is specialized in design and synthesis of encapsulation materials for usage in bulk heterojunction solar cells. She pursued her PhD degree under supervision of Prof. Dr. Ceylan Zafer, who is currently the president of the Solar Energy Institute of Ege University.
