Social cyber physical systems (SCPS) are complex socio-technical systems in which human and cyber physical agents are massively intertwined. While most systems are designed to satisfy a person’s requirements as a user or operator, in SCPS humans and technology form a distributed, hybrid agency. Considerations of the nonhuman shifts focus from technology issues to non-technical requirements relating to the semantics and cybernetics of human and non-human agents revealing a new posthuman perspective that challenges the dominant human-centered paradigm. We aim to extend traditional design methodologies to embrace posthuman models of thinking in the context of SCPS design.
