By applying its data-driven expertise and focus on sustainability, MagIC can play a key role in facilitating innovation and knowledge sharing within the circular bio-economy.

Building on MagIC's existing strengths in data science, management research, and thematic lines focused on sustainability, here's how the Centre can contribute to the call for proposals:

Data-Driven Insights for Value Chain Optimization:

  • Leverage Marketing and Consumer Behaviour research to understand consumer preferences for bio-based products and identify target markets.
  • Employ Geoinformatics to analyze land use patterns and identify areas with underutilized biomass potential.
  • Utilize Data Science, particularly Deep Learning and Synthetic Data Generation, to optimize logistics and resource allocation within the bio-based value chain.

Empowering Primary Producers and Fostering Collaboration:

  • Use Public Policy research to analyze existing policies and regulations impacting cooperation between primary producers and bio-based industries.
  • Develop Information Systems solutions to facilitate communication and information sharing within cooperative structures.
  • Apply Finance and Risk Management expertise to create financial models that assess the feasibility and profitability of new business models for primary producers in the circular bio-economy.

Sustainability Assessment and Life Cycle Analysis:

  • Leverage Geoinformatics capabilities to monitor the environmental impact of bio-based production systems, including land-use changes and potential ecosystem disruptions.
  • Utilize Data Science techniques to develop Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models to assess the environmental footprint of bio-based products throughout their life cycle.

Building a Knowledge Base and Sharing Best Practices:

  • Utilize Information Systems research to develop platforms for knowledge sharing and communication among stakeholders involved in the circular bio-economy.
  • Conduct research on successful cases of cooperation in other sectors using Management research methods, and translate those learnings to the bio-economy context.
  • Leverage expertise in Public Policy to develop recommendations for policy frameworks that incentivize and support the transition to a circular bio-economy.
