Focused on Young Learners.The aim of the project is to improve effectiveness in teaching and learning English as a foreign language and their outcomes at the primary level while respecting the specifics of young learners education. Realization of this project creates an essential basis for accomplishing the European development plan of our school aiming for internalization and using the foreign language in international communication within the European Union. The project also aims to utilize the international communication for increasing intercultural understanding, to raise the common level of education, and to develop the awareness of the context of the life in the European Union and of the European citizenship.The project involves the following tasks:- preparatory phase,- teacher training in methodology and didactics emphasizing communicative techniques with the specific target group of young learners, updating the teaching methodology to the recent trends,- implementation of acquired knowledge into the teaching and learning processes,- assessment of the project,- dissemination of the project results.Participants' background and needs:There are four participant to this project: Four teachers of English at the primary level are going to be trained both in the Czech Republic and in Great Britain in the specific methodology needed for fulfilling the aim of the project. Methodology:An organizing team will be established to carry out all the stages of the project. They are a project manager, a project coordinator and an administrative staff member. The organizing team will be responsible for selecting the teacher training courses to meet both school and individual participants' needs. Different courses will be chosen in order to provide maximum effect when the methods and knowledge gained are shared. The organizing team will provide the practical arrangements including travel tickets, insurance, safety and protection instructions before the individual mobilities. Members of the organizing team will be available on-line for support during any training mobility. Coordinator of the project will provide the follow up activities: implementation of the new methodology in the lessons, counselling the international cooperation projects. Headmaster of the school and vice headmaster will maintain monitoring, assessment and inspection activities in and out of classes. The participants in cooperation with the realizing team will be responsible for dissemination of the results of the training in a form of reports to the coordinator, press reports, web articles, implementation in the students of pedagogy training, sample lessons for the teachers of the region and further teacher education classes.Objectives and impact:School as an institution will benefit from the project in following areas:Increasing the quality of English teaching and learning by implementing up to date methodology in the classes.Adjustment of the methodology to the age of the pupils who begin to learn the foreign language, i.e. English at lower age than before.Unifying the overall aim of learning the foreign language - to be used in communication.Increasing the motivation of both teachers and learners.Improvement of exploiting the means of ICT in lessons and in the international communication.Gaining partners for international cooperation projects.Increasing interest, knowledge and awareness in the European issues: multicultural dialogue and understanding of national diversities, life in democratic countries of EU, European citizenship.The project will have a long term impact on the target groups of teachers in following areas of competence and skills:Professional development: Enlargement of the teaching methods and competences.Developing understanding of learners’ needs with special regards to the specifics of teaching English to young learners.Knowledge and experience exchange with colleagues within organization as well as international exchange of expertise with teacher training participants from various countries of EU.Developing international cooperation projects, utilizing cross-curricular activities.Developing ICT competences.Increase of motivation for work and self-education.Language skills:Enhancing the communication skills in the foreign language such as increase of oral fluency, developing reading and listening skills, practising the accent.Personal development of the teacher:Growth of communicative competences in using foreign language, especially overcoming timidity in speech, growth of self-assurance.Establishing new cooperation and friendships within the international community of teachers.Impact on the pupils:Increase of motivation for learning.Provision of better language model by the teacher.Developing communicative and ICT competences.Increasing intercultural awareness and understanding.
