Liepaja Children and youth centre during 1st of november year 2015 till 1st of august year 2016 hosted two volunteers- Manuel from Italy (sending organization Comune di Ciniseello Balsamo) and Alexandru from Romania (sending organization A.C.T.O.R.)
Main project aim was to promote active participation in non formal event organization among youth, providing benefits to the local society and learning new skills, finding diversity of cultures, developing solidarity and mutual understanding among young people.
During project volunteers worked with Liepaja Children and youth centre children and youth, participated in different events and activities organized by centre, as well realized own ideas and initiatives. As one of lasting values is implementation of new tradition – Tuesday game evenings/“English game night”, organized by volunteers. Also non formal methods used during project, which were used and documented by volunteers. Each volunteer worked also on own initiatives – Alexandru together with local youngsters created puppet theater play “EVS story of life”, Manuel created video showing his thoughts, experience and interaction with local youngsters and also assisted to work on new project applications.
Both volunteers during project worked with different target groups, with children who participated in centre’s interest education activities, and youngsters who participated in centre’s department “Youth house” activities. In such interaction volunteers get to know interest education principles, and teachers of centre get to know non formal methods and its use to reach certain goal. Thus not only improving quality of individual classes, but also integrate non formal education methods in every day work. Main work methods for volunteers was assisting for staff, independent work, team work, work and leisure time balanced planning, volunteers opinion in centre planning meetings, distribution of information, communication with children and youth, mass media and other stakeholders, realization of initiatives, language learning, language teaching, learning by doing and evaluation. Activities for volunteers were planned based on Children and youth centre work plans, dividing works in blocks, where in a given period happened preparation for bigger events like Latvia birthday, Liepaja birthday celebration, Family festivity. Volunteers were also involved in smaller-scale activities implemented for centre members, like creating workshops in youth clubs, assisting in centre organized workshops, competitions, shows, photo report and documentation from events, get to know each other, team building, and other activity implementation in children and youth camps. However main work place was Liepaja children and youth centre department “Youth house”, where volunteers participated in open stage, youth exhibition, discussions, youth theater, improvisation theater, movie, game and inter cultural evenings, creative workshops, team building activity organizing. Volunteers had opportunity to participate in every Children and youth centre activities related to own interests, capacity, personal and project aims.
