Youth Partecipation and European Elections
Youth Partecipation and European Elections
Start date: Jul 21, 2014,
End date: Nov 20, 2014
PROJECT
FINISHED
The project “Youth Partecipation and European Elections", organized by Associazione Culturale Giovanile Moby Dick, has been a chance of growth and progress among the young participants, about the awareness of European citizenship. The starting point has been the 2014 European elections, that is the formal mechanism par excellence of participation to the European social life.
The focus has been put on the tools to build participation both before and after having the rights to vote, and also on other ways of participation.
The applicant is Associazione Culturale Giovanile Moby Dick, who has been involved in the last years in European mobility, helping also other organizations and Youth Forums in the field of active participation.
Moby Dick, helped by the local Youth Forum, wanted to involve youths from other Programme countries. The partnership was formed by Germany, France, Spain, Estonia, Latvia and Slovenia, that are the countries with the most and the least seats in the European Parliament. For each organization there were 5 young people and a group leader, and also a youth worker who had the task of facilitating the group activities, for a total number of 41 participants (the French group was made of 4 people instead of 6)
Our goal was to exchange ideas and practices about participation to social life and the European Citizenship building, going beyond the formal participation methods (goal of the European Charter on the Participation of Young People in Local and Regional Life). Young participants were able to become aware of being an active part of the building process of more democratic, solidary and prosperous societies, starting from the youths with fewer opportunities.
The organizations collected and documented the events regarding the promotion of 2014 European elections, so that we had a great starting point for discussions with other groups. The youths started from their experiences as promoters (in their context) of how important was to participate in the elections, and the opportunity their countries offer as tools for participation so that they confront them together.
Moreover there have been moments for sharing experiences and demonstrations of activities connected to active participation, involving local political actors and organizations with the mission of promoting active citizenship. Likewise, at the end of the project, each group was asked to involve their local community replicating this way of sharing experiences with political actors and organizations.
Tools of non formal education, like Workgroups (national and mixed), Open Space Technology, Role play and World Café, were used in the project
