"Youth on the movies” is a Youth Exchange Programme meant to involve young people from 20 to 30 years old coming from Italy, Turkey, Tunisia and Poland. It will take place in Lecce (south of Italy) from 21 to 28 August 2015.
This project whished to give to young people from Euro-Mediterranean region a concrete opportunity to meet and discuss on shared relevant issues, merging all the different perspectives and backgrounds in a general, calm and productive debate. In order to reach this objective, the art of filmmaking and the universal language of art has been chosen as recognized as one of the best means that can help the participants to express their selves.
Objectives
Therefore, the main objectives of the exchange were as following :
- To promote mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue between young people involved in the Euro - Mediterranean region;
-To contribute in developing young people’s ability to open thinking, in order to help them learning to analyze the different points of view and to fight stereotypes, prejudices and distrust;
-To develop young people’s awareness of the their country’s problems and of the common aspects with other countries;
- To promote active citizenship, a sense of initiative, creativity and an active commitment toward change .
Activities
"Youth on the movies" consisted of three activities: Exchange Stories; Cineforums; Workshops.
1.Exchange Stories
Participants for each delegation were asked to briefly present the recent history of their country in terms of social and political issues using a specific means: they were asked to share short videos, photos and slides in order to illustrate how cinema has told and represented the main political events and social transformations of their own country. The aim was to promote mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue between young people involved through the universal language of Art and Filmmaking .
2.Cineforum
In this part, participants faced three relevant issues that afflicts Euro - Mediterranean countries : "Migration and social inclusion", "The gender issue" and "The political, social and economic crisis and the challenges to change”.
Participants, divided into country delegations, presented to the others the movie which can better represent the current situation of their own country about the specific daily issue. Then, they explained it using images , video trailers and reviews .
-Outdoor Cineforum : In the evening, the film chosen as the best was shown in a square of the city of Lecce, inviting to see it whoever can be interested.
3.Workshops
Finally, young participants were asked to design and implement a promoting video for different theme.
