“Youth in Democracy: Let's go!” - an East-West training course in Youth Work on how to foster Democratic Participation and Active Citizenship”

“Youth in Democracy: Let's go!” - was an East-West training course in Youth Work on how to foster Democratic Participation and Active Citizenship”. Organized during 16-22 November 2014 in Baku - Azerbaijan. Target group of the project consisted of: youth workers, youth leaders, young volunteers, youth trainers. 28 learner/youth workers from 14 partner organizations from 11 countries participated in the project together with 2 trainers and 4 support staff resulting to 34 participants in total. The project aimed at developing multipliers’ competences in providing the conditions to young people to actively participate in the Democratic life of their local communities. Objectives of the project were: - To share and compare realities and practices in youth work in East and West; - To enable participants to support young people in planning, implementing and evaluating youth democratic citizenship actions and processes in an effective manner; - To explore the concept of democratic youth participation and its relevance for each own local context; - To enhance participants strategical approaches towards youth democratic participation processes at local level; - To understand the learning dimension in youth democratic participation processes, and the relevance of non-formal education; - To initiate a plan for the participants follow-up action after the training course The training course was based on the specific needs of the participants and was highly participatory. It was delivered in the form of practical sessions implemented by the participants in a experiential learning-by-doing fashion. The trainers took care of creating a supportive and safe learning environment, where participants were encouraged and coached while mastering challenges that contribute to their personal, professional and organisational development. Special attention was paid to making the learning points of the training course relevant, sustainable and transferable. The direct output of the project was the online DVD which contains the following resources: • all flipcharts used and produced by trainers and participants • all power point presentations used and produced by trainers and participants • all handouts used and produced by trainers and participants • other outcomes of the training course This DVD can be used a source use by • the partner organisations • further partner organisations and stakeholders of “our” partner organisations • like-minded organisations • stakeholders in ERASMUS+ • society at large This training as a contribution to the strengthening of civil society and the active (and competent) participation of young European citizens in society. Through the various levels and formats of encounter that were provided during the activity, a further impact with long-term effect on the participants as multipliers should be raised sympathy and openness for people from other backgrounds.
