This Project will be developed in Madeira Island (Portugal) from January 2015 to May 2016 (17 months) with collaboration of two volunteers from Spain. We pretend to contribute for the personal development and active participation in nature conservation and environmental sustainability. The EVS project is involved within Macaroaves, which one SPEA are developing with other partners from Canary Island to promote the potential of ornithological and nature tourism in the Macaronesian region. This project, called “Youth for Sustainable Development”, appears as a response to the urgent need for an active development of youth people in our community. With this project we are pretending to promote intercultural experiences between far away region from mainland as Macaronesian region. In this way, we would like to collaborate with the rural areas from archipelago; we also aim the inclusion of the volunteers in the local community, and their action on promotion and involvement of local youth and general population in the recovery of habitats, environmental education, promoting sustainability, ecotourism and biodiversity conservation. With this proceedings, and their incorporation in our team and fieldwork experience we expect to contribute to volunteers’ non-formal education, leading them as “nature ambassadors”. Main activities we would like to organize are involved within: - Promoting volunteer actions with youth people and population in general, to encourage activism and interest for the nature and biodiversity of Madeira and of Macaronesian region as well. - Contacting with local enterprises, government and private entities of Madeira, also with agricultures from disadvantages places. - Organizing volunteer local teams and distribution of tasks. - Organizing activities between partner associations to develop of nature tourism as some: week of ornithological tourism of Macaronesia, or Environmental festival and birdwatching, etc. - Environmental education - Preparation of papers or articles to the newsletter of SPEA. - Update a social network, blog or Facebook page describing our activities. - Research work about proposed topics (History and development of nature tourism and Ornitologico; Biodiversity and conservation of Macaronesia; Importance of agriculture to birds and agrarian landscape; Seabirds: Threats and conservation; Best practices in business and development; Tourism of the XXI century: Ecotourism and its impacts). In general terms, this project aims to promote sustainability and cooperation in developing socials aspects such as solidarity and justice, also a sustainability development of public and private entities in European Union and in the world, where a citizens will have a relevant role in the global economy. Finally, we want to host two volunteers, unemployed people from Canary Islands to do an effective work to conserve our biodiversity and habitat to future generations and to help to promote good practices to improve lives of Madeiran and in a larger scale of the whole Macaronesian. Also, an isolation situation of Madeiran archipelago makes this region a place with some geographical barriers, which is interesting to develop actions in the islands.
