Youth Exchange Garching-Utrecht 2016
Start date: Jan 18, 2016,
End date: Jan 17, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
The youth political parties of Student & Starter in Utrecht (Netherlands) and JuGarching in Garching/Munich (Germany) are both interested in new ideas, open to innovation and actively trying to improve awareness and activating young people about politics and (local) initiatives to help them become truly global citizens. They were both looking for collaboration with other associations in order to learn from each other and exchange information. They are both open minded and interested in how things are handled in other regions and countries. The purpose of the exchange is to let young people learn more cultural differences; local and global issues with local impact; local politics and how local decision making can be influenced; and developing new creative ideas and international collaboration. There will be 10 participants from Garching/Munich (Germany) and 10 participants from Utrecht (Netherlands). The participants will be between 18-30 years old, some with medical disadvantages. The organizers of the exchange are young people as well, organizing this exchange is an example of us developing our skills to engage in social dialogue as well! We plan to organize two exchanges: one of German youth from Garching coming to Utrecht and vice versa. The main objective of this exchange is the intercultural encounter of European youth from Utrecht and Garching, in order to develop the skills needed in intercultural participation. Next to the main objective, the exchange also has four sub-objectives that support the main goal. First, the exchange aims to let young people gain lessons and insights in regard to their own culture. Second, the exchange also aims to let young people gain lessons and insights with regard to other cultures. With the first and second sub-objective comes the third, that is to secure the gained insights through activities, reflection and evaluation. The last sub-objective is to establish an encounter based on dialogue and intercultural awareness. ACTIVITIESMETHODOLOGYThe project will have a clear impact on the views of the participants and create a ripple effect that will influence many more. Participants will tell their peers about their experience through social media and write testimonies. Participants will have a deeper understanding about their position in society and the impact they can have. Participants will receive a Youthpass certificate which will attest to their newly learned skills. We view this exchange as a stepping stone to include more youth organisations in participating countries next year!
