Society and its citizen’s life immerse in a “culture of violence”. Media, schools, families, communities and politics show constant images of different type of violence promoting the paradigm that violence is inevitable and that is the one of the tools available to make changes happen. Thus, children grow up believing in this idea not only as a concept but as basis for living. Children and youth have been taught in school that the history is composed by a cycle of war periods where territories changed and that shaped the current world. These children have now become adults who are perpetuating this spiral of belief: conflict=violence=tool for change. Against this background, the aim of the training course is to counter the cultural of violence and the acceptance of violence as a form of conflict intervention at individual level and intergroup relations by offering with peace education a complex and value-based respond to acquire competences that people need to be capable of in order to live, apply and promote peaceful means of conflict transformation every day. With this training course we would like to foster the use educational tools that empower young people to be active agents of peaceful change in Europe, particularly in the contexts of frozen conflicts in EECA region and in increasingly escalating community conflicts in Western Europe between the dominating majority and the excluded marginalised parts of the population (e.g. young people with migration background, religious minorities). Consequently, the objectives of the training course are as follows: • To make youth workers familiar with the value-based approach of education for peace • Discover and reflect on tools that focus on learning to learn and motivate young people to become active citizens • Apply theatre-arts and other non-formal learning methods as tools for dialogue and shared learning that fosters young people`s self-development and active participation based on the principles of nonviolent conflict transformation • Highlight the significance of creative interactive tools to foster youth participation in the realisation of change processes • To design creative and attractive educational programmes on peace education for young people, specifically for young people with fewer opportunities and those hard-to-reach Since peace education is relying on methods of non-formal education, the methods employed in the training course will be participatory and needs orientated. The facilitators will use exercises from European training manuals such as Compass, Mosaic, T-Kit and Domino Pack developed by Council of Europe and/ or the European Commission. Furthermore, they will draw from their working and training experiences and use their own education tools as well. The expected results on the participants is to be able to apply principles of peace education as an educational concept in their work with young people on participation, social responsibility, nonviolence and addressing community conflicts that hamper the personal and social development of young people. The training course will take place in Dilijan, Armenia, for youth workers, youth leaders and youth educators from countries Italy, Germany, Georgia, Polonia, Ukraina, Armenia. The planned dates for the realisation of the course are from 30/8/14 to 7/9/14.
