Youth and communities for wildlife conservation in Armenia

The territory of the Gomk and Martiros communities (Armenia) is part of the important biodiversity "hotspots" and eco-corridor for IUCN Red Listed threatened species. This site rich with biological diversity is not protected. The Young Biologists Association NGO is going to develop concept of the community based conservation. The main aim of the EVS project, developed by MAPAR and YBA is to promote nature conservation among youth of the Gomk and Martiros communities. This is important preconditions for achieving successful conservation measures. Two volunteers from France will participate in the project. Our volunteers has a nature conservation and biological background and experience. The main activities of the project are implementation of the environmental education programme for schoolchildren in local communities and implementation of the small scale environmental projects. The volunteers will also be engaged in biodiversity research and ecotourism. They will have an opportunity to prepare and implement their own projects. The main results of the project will be development of the positive attitude, environmentally friendly behavior and active participation of young people in nature conservation. The long-term impact of the project is establishment of the community-based protected area in the territory of the villages.
