Wars, persecutions, massacres… As many reasons that lead people walking on thousands of miles on their quest for a refuge. The situation is complicated for them facing every day new obstacles, for the governments overwhelmed with the increasing number of refugees and for the associations often helpless before the scale of this unexpected humanitarian crisis. Through the numerous exchanges we have with our partners, several similarities and needs in terms of attitudes, skills, knowledge, network and tools appeared. Then, thanks to the motivation and the will of civic involvement of a group of young from Sweden, Serbia and France who were participating at one of our Euro-Med event, we have decided to create in a collaborative way this seminar. Entitled “Youth Acting for the Inclusion of Refugees, for Tolerance and Human Rights”, it will take place in Strasbourg (France) from the 21st to the 31st of July 2016 on the thematics of the socio-professional and cultural inclusion of young refugees and of the fight against the stereotypes and prejudices linked to this target group. The 36 participants will be over 18 and youth workers or experienced volunteers, especially whose having or working with people with fewer opportunities. Thanks to this seminar, they will acquire keys to understand this situation’s issues, knowledge and tools to get round the barriers (linguistic, cultural and traumatic) that hinder their work with young refugees and will have the opportunity to extend their network via new partnerships. They will discover new methods of non-formal education and tools they can re-use in their daily work, as well various video and text documents they will produce (reports in refugee camps, recommendations, articles about the seminar and its results, pictures, short-movie of the mobility, e-booklet, Youthpass, etc.). They will exchange good practices and have the opportunity to build concrete solutions together and to create projects at e European and international scale. Thus they will be able to support at best young refugees in their socio-professional and cultural inclusion, and to fight against stereotypes and prejudices. Despite the various similarities in terms of situations and need, the diversity of partners and participants offer an undeniable richness: cultures from one side to the other of Europe and of the Mediterranean Sea, departure, transit and/or host countries, complementary experiences… In order that the participants could take advantage at best of all these human resources, a great variety of activities will be used:- Conference-debate and roundtable: knowledge about funding measures and migratory flows, exchanges with several local speakers- Open space: share of good practices- Simulation game: understanding and empathy development- Workshops about the definition of the thematics concepts, the challenges and problems of the participants and the strengths and limits of local actions- Cycle of projects creation in intercultural subgroups- Workshops for interaction, group cohesion and building of methods and skills in non-formal education. All these activities will be organised in a participative way, promoting peer-based education and learning-by-doing. As it has been pointed out above, the participants will create several documents and tools which are going to have an impact on their own work, on their various partner associations, on media, stakeholders and elected representatives, and more generally on every person that will read their articles or recommendations, see their videos or pictures or listen to their stories. Paper or digital support, social networks or website of the associations, blogs or Youtube, intercultural events organised in their countries (during which the participants could share their experience by telling them and by talking with other interested persons): the means of communication are varied and will all be used in order to have the wider and most efficient impact possible. To conclude, further to the perspective itself of inclusion which has not only a short-term aim, this seminar is an in-depth work whose main objective is above all peace building thanks to the enhancement of cultural diversity and the open-mindedness of an increasing number of people. Thus this seminar will have without doubts long-term effects.
