YES YOU CAN - International Maltese Summercamp
YES YOU CAN - International Maltese Summercamp
Start date: Jul 1, 2013,
The International Summercamp of the Order of Malta (IMS) has been organised to enhance solidarity among European young people with and without disabilities. Almost 500 young people (half of them with disabilities, primarily physical) will come together for one week in Kildare, Ireland and the event will be hosted by the Irish Order of Malta. The participants will be from EU member countries, partner and acceding countries, including Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Bosnia-Herzegovina. For most of the participants this event will be one of the few activities during the year, without barriers or differences, that they have the opportunity to be involved in to broaden their experiences. The theme of the event is “Yes you can” (“Is feidir leat” in Irish) and the objective of the event is to provide disabled young people with a forum to share experiences and exchange information. This will enable them to address barriers that they face in their daily lives (physical, cultural, and psychological), with the added value of enhanced personal experience and learning. The event gives a global European perspective of integration and social inclusion and creates lasting supranational links of friendship between the participants. It enables a real understanding of the EU as a body that provides an opportunity for citizens to come together to stimulate integration, innovation and promote volunteering to care for others. Workshops, activities on EU topics, integration games, international cultural events, excursions, and sports will help the participants to develop new skills and to better understand Europe and the diversity of European cultures, traditions, and people, especially of the hosting country, Ireland. Every activity will be based upon the primary theme of integration and informed by the participants' needs.
