YEP - Youth Empowerment in Practise
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Artemisszió Foundation is an NGO aiming at fostering intercultural dialogue with a special focus on the social integration of marginalized youth (socially disadvantaged, Roma, migrant youth). Together with our partners (REDE from Portugal, KEPKA DIEK from Greece), we plan to realize an EVS project called "YEP - Youth Empowerment in Practise" that focuses on intercultural dialogue and social inclusion of youngsters. Volunteers will primarily be involved in working with socially disadvantaged youth, hence, they will focus on the development of the local communities, based on their creativity and entrepeneurship as volunteers will be motivated to take initiatives throughout the whole project. The project will give the oportunity for 4 young volunteers to travel abroad in 2016-2017 for 6 months each and be integrated in the local society with the help of the host organization for his/her personal development, and for the benefit of the community. One Hungarian volunteer will go to Portugal for 6 months and will work in a young activist group in the sensibilization of different target groups of gender justice issues, and fight against discrimination. The volunteer will cooperate both in big public campains and small scale workshops of gender sensibilization with non formal education methods. One Hungarian volunteer will travel to Greece for a 6 months service to be involved in non formal educational activities in kindergardens, schools, and community centers. The service focuses on the work with disadvataged youth groups, for example with the Roma community of the city of Volos. Moreover, two foreign volunteers will do their services at Artemisszió Foundation in Budapest. One portugese and one greek volunteer will undertake a 6 month service at Artemisszio Foundation in Budapest, with a strong focus on activities for marginalized youth. The volunteers will get involved in our projects organizing mobility experiences for disadvantaged youth and other youth related projects of Artemisszió.The participants will also have the possibility to propose mini projects using the tools of non-formal learning to enrichen the activities of the organizations. Upon return to their countries, the volunteers will have the possibility to become more involved in the youth projects of their sending organizations, in order to help the integration of socially disadvantaged youth in their local community and to share experiences with the general public about having lived as an EVS volunteer in a foreign country. As for the results and the impact, the competences of the volunteers will improve (social and intercultural competences, animation skills, knowledge about local realities, skills related to pedagogy and non-formal education, self confidence, self knowledge, knowledge of a new language, critical thinking, tolerance, patience etc), they will have an insight in how an NGO / youth centre works, and they will experience the European dimension via this experience. At a local level, the communities and young people (directly and indirectly involved in the host projects) will benefit from the presence of a foreign volunteer, as well as the volunteers will bring back home the experience, and this will trigger further intercultural exchanges back in the home country. The project will have an impact on the partner organisations, too, and we will strengthen our cooperation.
