Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The challenges young people are facing today are complex and diverse. Young people tend to evade traditional participatory forms and are searching for new ways and new approaches to be part of society. Youth are the future leaders who will take forward the work of eradicating global poverty. In this context, YEA!! YOUTH EXPO AMBASSADORS aims increase the engagement of young people across EU and in Partner Countries neighbouring the EU in promoting fairer policies and sustainable behaviours and practices to contribute to food justice. The “Universal ExpoMilano2015” will bring together over 147 Participant countries, International Organizations and Companies around the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" with the aim to make a contribution to fighting hunger and thirst. The project will promote the participation of 60 young people aged between 18-30 years old in the Large Scale Event “Universal ExpoMilano2015”. YEA!! is structured in 4 main stages, distributed along 12 months of implementation involving 25 between European Member State, Non-European Programme Countries and Partner countries neighbouring the EU. The mobility activity structures will be divided into three different two-month flows (May-June; July- August; September-October) with 20 participants each. Thanks to the EVS experience included under this project young people will bring their voice in this huge event, traditionally attracting a large number of people (up to 20.000.000), a wide range of participating countries as well as a huge number of private multinational companies and willactively contribute in reforming the global food system to ensure the universal right to adequate food. Young volunteers will take action on more than 6000 events, forums, shows, food tasting organized by the states, international organizations and civil society participants planned in the 6 months of exhibition. The large scale event identified as added value for the EVS is Expo Milano 2015. Expo Milano, organized by Expo SpA, is a non-commercial Universal Exposition a place of exchange and encounter. Expo’s role is oriented towards interpreting the collective challenges to which mankind is asked to respond. The theme of Expo Milano 2015 is “Feeding the Planet” with the aim to make a contribution to fighting hunger and thirst – one of the great goals among the United Nations Millennium Goals – and to share perspectives and solutions. Expo Milano will be organized by Expo 2015 S.p.A., a corporation constituted on 1 December 2008 in fulfilment of commitments undertaken by the Italian Republic vis-à-vis the BIE. The World Expo 2015 will take place in Milan from 1 May to 31 October 2015. The Exhibition site area is located northwest of Milan and will cover 1.1 million m². One of the most innovative elements is the opportunity for participants to contribute to the Theme through their joints participation in nine Clusters: six specific food chains (Coffee, Rice, Cacao, Spices, Fruit and Legumes, Cereals and Tubers) and three global themes (Agriculture and Nutrition in Arid Zones, Seas and Islands, Bio-Mediterranean Ecosystems). These exhibition spaces, for the first time in the history of the Universal Exposition, will not adhere to the traditional geographical grouping of previous Joint Pavilions, but will gather Countries that produce a common specific food item or are interested in developing a shared, representative theme under the same architectural and thematic project. 20 million visitors are expected in 2015 from May 1 to October 31 on the Expo Milano 2015 exhibition site. About a third will be foreigners.Oxfam Italia together with Oxfam International has signed a Not Official Participant Agreement with Expo S.p.A. for the participation in the Expo Milano 2015. The agreement foresees the opportunities to implement - in the Exhibition site - events for a minimum of 30 days of events (either consecutive or non-consecutive).
