Renewable energy based on hydroelectric power and forest.
Arbeidsinstituttet Buskerud (AIB) have continuously worked with youth exchange projects with other countries for more than 20 years. Many of our youths have had fewer opportunities to travel as much as other young people, which can lead to fear for unknown situations and less knowledge of other people and cultures.
We have experienced that young people benefit a lot by participating in exchange programmes. They develop tolerance, fear for the unknown diminish, and their feeling of safety is increased, which leads to more self-confidence. They are learning a lot both professionally and socially, through cooperation and spending time together across cultures and borders. The theme of the year is hydroelectric power and renewable energy. This is a natural follow up of an exchange in Denmark 2012, where the focus was wind power.
We wish to focus on renewable energy based on global heating and the demand on reduced CO2 emissions. The town of Hønefoss and surrounding, is based on the waterways and the forest in the region, from timber floting to sawmills, possessing of forest, heating and power production.
We wish to learn the youths the connections of these by visiting various companies, excursions and experiments done by themselves. Companies we plan to visit are: Kistefoss pulp mill, Ringerike power station, Andritz Hydro witch is delivering turbines and sluices to power stations.
After these visits the youths themselves will build a water weel which is connected to a dynamo to produce power. The last activity will be on the Kjerraton Museum in Åsa, witch is illustrating how big water weels where able to transport timber upword in the terrain.
The accomandations will be at AIB`s lokals, where we all will be living during the exchange period.
