FINISHED
Our project is aimed at eldercare and home care servives. Scientific and technological developments in the world and our country have resulted in the reduction of the death rate due to the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases, the extension of human life and the increase of the elderly population in the total population. Aging in population has lead to many economic and social problems. Aging affects the areas such as production-consumption, income distribution policy, social security, family policies and health policies, in which the state has to propose macro and long term solutions. Especially European countries deal with many problems from the delivery of health care up to the social security and employment rights owing to the increasing elderly population. For all these reasons, Europe has started to study in the field of eldercare and has to develop service types that are appropriate for social needs, utilities, scientific facts and social expectations, and has to train professional staff to deliver health service to elder. According to 2014 statistics of Turkish Statistical Institute, the rate of elderly population in our country (65 and above) is estimated to be 8% and increase to10,2% in 2023 and to 20,8% in 2050. According to the definition of United Nations, that the rate of elderly population in the total population in a country is between 8% and 10% means that country is old populated. If this rate is above 10%, the population of this country is “too old”. According to the population projections, the rate of elderly population in Turkey is estimated to increase to10,2% in 2023 . In consideration of all these information, the major aim of our project is, in paralel with the aims of Erasmus+ Programme and Europe2020 Strategy, to provide our graduates with employment opportunity in both Europe and Turkey in a field in which Europe has some employment requirements and the employment opportunities in Turkey will face a dramatic increase in paralell with the increase in elderly population in the near future.Besides, with our project, we aim to provide our nursing students with a 3week institutional and home care internship in the eldercare centers of our host institution in Germany in which care services are developed, and help them to become professional in their professions to observe healthcare services in Europe onsite, to recognise the latest device and equipment in geriatric nursing and to learn the care services that change from institutional care into home care. Apart from all these, we aim to increase the quantity and quality of the manpower in the health sector, to provide the recognition of EU standards in eldercare and rehabilition services by the participants at institutional and national level; to increase the quality of our vocational education; to provide the acquirement of necessary qualifications in social and psychological rehabilitation as well as physical rehabilitation; to offer the participants an opportunity to create an international communication network for active participation in the society and to develop an understanding of European citizenship and identity. Our participants are 18 nursing students of 11th and 12th grade in our school and 2 accompanying people. These students will do internship for 3 weeks in 4 different eldercare centers in Gelsenkirchen in Germany, which belong to a company called (APD) and is very successful both in terms of the number of the employees and the quality of the service. In this internship, they will participate in the home care operations Besides, they will be trained in terms of approaches in geriatric nursing, home care services and employment opportunities, German health system by our foreign partners and the hospitals of the aforementioned internship. In terms of elderly population rate, Germany is on the 3rd rank in the world and on the 1st rank in Europe. This problem has created a manpower deficit in Germany and influenced the development of geriatrics and the modernization of the services. Thus, our project partner has been elected from Germany. All stages of the project will be shaped according to the principles of transparency and equal opportunity. Besides, our project contains an effective and comprehensive dissemination process. With the precautions we took, we will not be limited to our own environment We will reach an extensive target audience and share our acquisitions at the national level. In consequence of our project, our participants will take their due place in labour market in Turkey and Europe as well-informed, skillful health employees with high self-confidence who have experienced the practices in Europe in their field. Besides, by helping geriatric patiens to live healthy, they will make contributions to the increase in quality of the delivery of health services and the recognition of the employment opportunities in this field at the national level. Moreover, their foreign language will improve.
