Our school incorporates all the state schools in our valley under one management; 6 primary schools, 2 lower secondary schools and a higher secondary school for a total of about 900 pupils. There are four courses offered at high school; technical, economy, tourism and scientific. The schools are in Primiero (population 10,000), in the Autonomous Province of Trento in North-east Italy. Set under the Dolomite Mountains, it is a well-equipped tourist area of outstanding beauty. Our main resources are the mountains and the magnificent scenery (this part of the Dolomites is now a UNESCO World Heritage site), so it is a place where respect for the environment and a keen intent on the conservation of biodiversity is strongly felt. The school has firm roots within the territory and in fact our staff have collaborated with locals public and private organisations and businesses for many years, particularly with the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park that offers tourists, local and our pupils many interesting activities concerning the territory, environment and the fauna and flora .Our project has the following objectives: improve English and German language skills and therefore improve the ability of teachers to manage materials, sources and documentation in the English language; introduce and/or optimise CLIL, in all levels of school; put into practice/utilize new technologies concerning free software in class paying attention to the lawful use of these when choosing and using programs; promote debate between staff of European schools above all concerning innovative educational methods.Among the staff participating in this project there are 16 teachers from the various levels of schools and 2 technical and administrative staff. They all have from a B1 to C2 level of English and are all interested in gaining the skills necessary to optimise their use of new technology for educational purposes in their own fields. The project foresees certain stages: training the staff to improve English and German language skills; training teachers to use ICT for educational uses and CLIL teaching in the communication of topics concerning the project (environmental topics and tourism promotion) provided by internal staff or by experts from organisations that collaborate with the school; training pupils from the high school in cooperation with the Nature Park Paneveggio Pale di San Martino, with ACSM (local electricity provider) and with APT (Tourist Information Centre) and also through CLIL methods utilized by our school teachers. Training of high school pupils will improve their language and communication skills and working with cooperative learning methods on tourism-environmental subject matter with the aim of preparing teaching activities in the English language intended for use with younger pupils, specifically lessons on environmental topics in English, producing material both for teaching and to promote the territory, to also publish on the WEB, and organise local educational trips – when pupils from the high school will accompany and guide younger pupils through peer education; setting up and running a WEB site to promote and show the project’s activities and the territory at an international level and have a means of verifying the appreciation of the results reached by those same pupils that have participated in a forum, blog and questionnaires in English and Italian that have been put up on the WEB.At the end of the activity the following long and short term results have been envisaged: improvement of the staff’s English skills; increase in the pupils knowledge of English which would also be thanks to the increase in the CLIL hours using ICT, following European Union guidelines; cooperation with local organisations; increase in the opportunities offered to students and teachers for international mobility as more support can be provided by staff; more information and facilitation for job placement regarding Europe; creation and sharing of a hub of CLIL documentation and material accessible to anyone through the school's e-learning platform as well as a portal and Twinning; simplification of administrative management of teaching activities abroad.
