WOODLAND
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jan 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Welcome to WoodLand! Wood is different from a forest because of the high trees and of the light filtering in it. Little Red Riding Hood was crossing a wood in her tale! Wood can be very different in each environment because of climate, history, human intervention, mirroring our evolution as society; it is also the subject of traditions, tales and stories, elements of our identity. A safe and straight street in the countryside can lose its known form, becoming winding and challenging. Its noisy silence can assume symbolic meanings in our life, passing from childhood to adulthood, from unconsciousness to awareness. Popular dances, traditional games, tales and songs are talking about the wood as an important cultural element. Diversities of extreme richness for a youth exchange. Using as base the Cemea’s house in Oriolo Romano, the multicultural group composed of 26 youngsters between 28 and 30 years old of 5 different countries (Italy, France, Portugal, Spain and Latvia) explored and lived in one of the most rare woods existing in the surroundings of Rome. After sharing the cultural elements discovered in their own woods at home, the multicultural group had the possibility to realize a peer to peer guidance through different traditions and stories on woods, forming our common European heritage. Youngsters, adults and senior people of the local community were actively involved in the intercultural exchange process of the project through activities that fostered their interaction with the participants. The multicultural group also organised a public performance that included a guided tour in the EUROPEAN WOOD with the participation of Oriolo Romano Municipality Mayor and Culture Assessor who gave their patronage for the initiative.
