Wir in Europa
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Participating in the first activity are the School of Horticulture Räpina / Estonia and our College of Further Qualification. We are linked by a long-time partnership within the framework of the LdV Programme Mobility in the first vocational training, and recently in ERASMUS+. The participating trainee gardeners and florists (first and second year of training) in Estonian companies, take part in school life and in landscaping the school’s and student hostel’s surroundings. Furthermore, they take part in professional competitions. The project’s targets are getting acquainted with the Estonian world of work and professional training, the ecological features of the country, improving language skills and acquiring social competences. The project can only take place in the vegetation period, from May to September. Six trainees per year take part. Their activities include: internships, school lessons, excursions, regional and cultural studies, joint leisure activities with the Estonian trainees. The participants are chosen and prepared in cooperation with their training companies throughout Thuringia, and they will stay in Estonia for 14 days. They are to write daily reports and design presentations about their stay which are presented to the training companies and their classes, or displayed in our school buildings.Because the trainees in our vocational classes are from all regions of Thuringia (Landesfachklassen) they will share their foreign experience with their colleagues in the training companies of the whole Free State of Thuringia, which ensures a high degree of publicity for this project. This activity is currently gaining a new dimension because Räpina Aianduskool has acquired our school as strategic partner for a new phase of our relationship. We are convinced that the cooperation in the field of “Building timber structures” will facilitate the professional development of the participating gardeners in the subject “landscape gardening”, and we are sure that this project will receive a positive feedback from the participants. With the second activity Ernst-Benary-Schule will break new ground. In the past there were already language teachers proactively participating in courses for language methodology in various European countries. Now we are applying as a school in order to send not only language teachers but also specialist subject teachers who wish to teach their subjects in a foreign language to structured courses and job-shadowings. They will also need extended language competences to cooperate and communicate with our European partners. We would like to enable eight teachers (of languages and specialist subjects such as gardening and patisserie) to take part in offered courses or to approach vocational colleges in the United Kingdom, France and Malta. All eight colleagues have applied for this activity and our school administration is supporting their application. In order to minimize the cancellation of lessons most of these learning stays will take place during the school holidays as far as possible. These stays will aim at learning about new methods of language teaching including the development of students’ digital competences, new methods of CLIL and using new technology and modern media in teaching languages. The participating colleagues will circulate their newly acquired knowledge at internally organized training sessions.
