The project „HOW DO WE WORK – HOW DO YOU WORK, Crossing borders – widening thinking and acting by service in the Netherlands“ arises from the productive collaboration with our partners for years. The plan to promote the nursing and vocational skills as well as the maturing and development of personality structures among participants across borders is monitored and supervised stringently. The objectives of the project are, on the one hand to learn about the practical care work in the Netherlands and on the other hand to compare skills, transfer from the theory into practice in both countries and also to expand within the undergraduated health and nursing education, and broaden the experience horizons of all participants. Within the next two years a total of 12 young people will gain insight into structures of the Dutch hospital and nursing system. Participants should have the courage to discover new things, and be motivated, and have the strength to cope in new and unfamiliar situation. This new project will be published in many forms and is to be made available to other interested people. The multiplier effect of the experiences, focused on the work of the Dutch hospital system and of work at the patient’s bedside will be a central component of the project. In practice it looks like this: after selecting the participants and their preparation in languages and culture there will be interviews, and also tests in physical and mental fitness. In close cooperation with all participants travel and accommodation arrangements are clarified and cooperation as well employment contracts of the participants will be signed. In the six weeks of learning service, planned in the Netherlands, the participants will improve professionally after a period of becoming familiar with the practical trainers in the UMCG in the areas of practical nursing, organisation of work and different areas in the ward. The participants will work together various competences and skills of communication, evaluation and reflexion, including the discussion of professional and methodical aspects, in order to be able to compare the areas mentioned above. The project promises a high value for all participants. While the focus for the participants is on widening their professional and personal horizons, the cooperation partners also focus on the Europeanization and Internationalization.
