CONTEXT, AIMS AND ACTIVITES: The title of the project is ‘What’s new on the news?’. Six partner schools from: Beius (Romania), Palermo (Italy), Yalova (Turkey), Bierun (Poland), Kungsbacka (Sweden) and Ferrol (Spain) will be cooperating in this project directed towards the Cooperation and Innovation for Good Practices. Having noticed that many students at school have problems at understanding and producing written or oral texts, we’ve decided to face the problem by working on the news and the media. All the work will deal with the means of communication today amongst European citizens. It will be a 3-year project. The school in Spain will be the coordinator. Most part of the work will be shared equally by all the participants. The main aims of our project are: 1.-To arouse the students’ interest towards watching, reading or listening to the news as a means of information to know what’s happening in the World or just around them in their own country, city or neighbourhood, thus becoming more sensitive towards the world they live in. 2.-To improve their understanding and production of texts which show what’s happening in the world and to grow up critical, open-minded citizens open to other cultures and ways of communicating, aware of their common European identity. The project will focus on analyzing the news in different ways and producing new ones which will form part of the final products: 3 digital newspapers. The students will learn to analyze the news and extract conclusions, compare them and, find similarities and differences amongst the different countries and they will learn that all of them are valuable and enrich us as individuals. They will become more sensitive, tolerant and empathetic realising that all of us are European citizens who share many things in common. By understanding the news, they will be able to understand the others too, to form their own opinion and to be respectful when expressing it. Students and teachers will frequently use the new technologies and the Internet and they’ll communicate via e-mail, blog, or video conference. The blog, created by the coordinating school at the beginning, will be the place where all the materials will be uploaded. Project activities will be integrated into the regular activities of the schools and included in their curricula. All the steps in the project will involve the participation of all the schools, including the planning, organization and evaluation of activities so maximum available mobility is needed. The project activities will include 6 project meetings, one in each country, two for each project year. Several products will be produced after each visit: mainly articles, photographs and videos. Self-evaluation activities (surveys after each meeting) will be carried out too. The participants will be over 195 students aged 13-18 (depending on each school), some of which are facing economical problems, have learning difficulties or belong to groups at risk on exclusion and over 60 teachers. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1.-Developing and improving the level of most key competences and transversal skills: communication in mother and foreign languages (multilingualism), entrepreneurship, sense of initiative, digital skills, using innovative and learner-centred pedagogical approaches. 2.-Developing appropriate assessment based on learning outcomes. 3.-Raising awareness about EU Citizenship and the rights that go with it, thus enabling young people to behave as active democratic informed citizens. 4.-Promoting the emergence and raising awareness of a European lifelong learning area. 5.-Enhancing the international dimension of teaching and of youth activities. Improving the teaching and learning of languages and promoting the EU's broad linguistic diversity and intercultural awareness. 6.-Revising and strengthening the profile of the teaching professions, fostering quality improvements in teaching by means of enhanced transnational cooperation amongst the participating schools. 7.-Enhancing ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) uptake in teaching and learning. 8.-Promoting young people's social inclusion and well-being, especially of those with fewer opportunities or belonging to other cultures. 9.-Improving the attainment of young people, particularly those at risk of early school leaving and with low basic skills. 10.-Promoting healthy behaviours, through the promotion of the practice of outdoor activities and grassroots sports, as means to promote healthy lifestyles. RESULTS: We will produce 3 digital newspapers composed of a variety of sections: articles, photos, comics, videos, etc. which will help improve our students communicative competences and grow as European open-minded critical citizens. We will get long term benefits by keeping the journals alive after the conclusion of the project via eTwinning or similar tools and by disseminating the project as far as possible through: the Internet, contacts with the media, talks, etc
