„We know!“- Comedy as a brigde into career
The school is soon to end. The preparation for the final examinations is extremely stressful and involves a lot of energy, as well as mental, physical and psychological strengths. In addition there are questions arising on long-term life perspectives: “Who would I like to be? What should I study? Do I feel like studying or entering an apprenticeship or an internship for a year?” Above mentioned as well as many other questions are for the youngsters to deal with before graduation and making a decision on further actions. At the same time there are various personality-forming processes taking place, that require the highest degree of orientation, autonomy and decision-making capacity (leaving the parental home, identity formation, first love affair, first relationship etc.) Young people with migrant background of doubts and ambiguitiesare are especially affected on this stage of personality-development. In addition to the questions that local youngsters are forced to face, the migrants need first to overview the possibilities and structures of the educational system in their new home country. Residing in a foreign country they lack of points of reference for creating an appropriate behavioural everyday-repertoire. The parents are often no support, as they are disoriented themselves. The attempts of getting help from the school or youth-facilities usually end up being unsuccessful due to the lack of language skills. Despite the fact, that there have been various supporting arrangements developed to facilitate the integration of migrants, the access to aid organizations for the new citizens is still not transparent enough for the migrants to be benefiting from them without an external help. The differences in management systems, the diversity of institutions, heavy bureaucratic barriers as well as the lack of language skills are the main reasons why the supporting arrangements are not being used by the migrants.
All the above mentioned is the reason for the meeting of Russian-speaking youth resident in five European countries (Latvia, Ukraine, Greece, Estonia and Germany) in order to deal in the creative manner with the problem of transition from the school to the career from the migrational point of view. In the period from 01.09.2015 till 31.08.2017 three youth exchanges in three European cities (Riga, Thessaloniki and Hamburg) will take place. The youth groups will tell their own stories on the subject and will be given the opportunity to collect and share their experiences. During the meeting in Riga the youngsters will look for the problem areas matching their apprehension of the phrase: “Transition from the school to the career”. They will be motivated to search for the similarities and differences of their countries in this field and to discuss them as a complete group. There will be a pool of topics to be processed during the youth exchange in Greece as a result of the first meeting.
In Greece, the youngsters will try to elaborate prior chosen themes with the help of short video clips. As a result of the second exchange five self-made short films should be created representing the interpretation of the given themes in a creative way.
The last phase of the work, which will take place in Hamburg, Germany, will be dedicated to the theme of job application. The representatives of different areas of work (scientists, business, service industry, etc.) will be invited to the youth exchange to reveal their own criteria on the application process and carry out interviews with the participants. The role-play interviews should be as close as possible to reality, to best prepare the youth for the upcoming application period.
In addition to the intensive work phases, enough time will be dedicated to recreation and free exchange between the young people, in a manner that the youngsters will be able to develop their intercultural next to professional skills.
