We Dare Crisis! Forum Theatre for Living In and Leaving Behind economic and social Crisis
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Mar 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

"We dare crisis - forum theatre for living in and leaving behind crisis" is a training activity hosted by the non governmental organization TheatrEtc. The training course will take place in Nicosia, Cyprus from the 5th until the 13th of December 2014 (including traveling dates) and is designed for 20 youth workers (activists, artists and educators) from 6 E.U. member states (Italy, France, Romania, Greece, Poland, Cyprus,). The aim of "We dare crisis" is to build on pre-acquired knowledge as well as introduce to new participants forum theatre and other similar theatre techniques, to create a platform for dialogue and exchange of opinions, practices, experiences and ideas on the issue of economic crisis and to analyse how forum theatre can give voice to communities in the partner countries and especially young people living in those communities who are struggling with unemployment and the inability to stay active as citizens of the E.U. Finally, it aims at empowering creative communication between participants on the the way European citizens can live in and leave behind economic and social instability without losing their collaborative spirit and mutual respect on which the European Union is fundamentally based, avoiding social incoherence and discrimination from local populations against immigrants as a result of the economic competition in each European state's social structure. "We dare crisis" training course will consist of 7 days of workshops and other activities, which will be implemented predominantly with non-formal and informal educational methods. The first activities/ workshops of the week will involve getting to know each other events, specifically organized to help participants become familiar with each other and with the old city of Nicosia, the people living there and organizations relevant in the field active in the area. At the first days, participants will also spend time on dialogue sessions designed in such way that allow them to creatively share their experiences and thoughts on the issues of crisis, economic and social, and present ideas on how youth unemployment, social alienation between E.U. member states and the maintenance of a coherence of a European identity can be tackled in each country. The core of the workshops which will be in the middle of the 7-days, will focus on enriching the knowledge of forum theatre (methodology, practical uses and examples) and will also build on other theatre techniques, which stem from the same pool of methodology propose by the world's leading theatre practitioner Augusto Boal, such as Invisible theatre and Image theatre. At the same time, the participants will also have the chance to work together on another theatre technique, playback theatre. Towards the end of the 7-day training, participants will have the opportunity to built an interactive performance aimed towards the public of Nicosia, based on the exchange of knowledge and ideas and the context of the training course. The impact envisioned for "We dare crisis!" is to allow the preparation of participants to be able to create refreshing and innovative local initiatives in their organizations in each partner country that bring together more and more young people who are unemployed and/or are struggling both financially and politically to trust the societies in their country. More participation of young people in innovative activities that allow dialogue and an exchange of ideas as well as knowledge and experience building will mean less young people that are idle and disillusioned about their future, as all countries desire to motivate and mobilise young people to constantly stay informed, work together and keep being socially and academically educated.
