Watch out! A tourist attraction!
Start date: Mar 1, 2015, End date: Jul 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project Watch out! A tourist attraction! has brought first steps toward the development of the Tourist Information Centre in Hrastnik. Within the project, we set the foundations for fresh and intercultural approaches, that would have shown the value of the local environment to the young people, especially to those who are fighting with unemployment and fragile economic situation, which are often reasons to emigrate from their hometowns. As for the volunteers, we wanted to provide an experience, where they were able to demonstrate and increase their organizational and communication skills. Within preparation of texts for the brochure and writing their blogs they strengthened their research and writing skills, with organizing their own events and with participation in the events of the Youth Centre Hrastnik and also in their free time, they acquired informal knowledge and experiences, such as independency, organization, communication and digital competences. Our partner organizations were Magyar Önkéntesküldő Alapítvány (HVSF) from Hungary and Jugendwerk der AWO Württemberg (JW) from Germany, which already have years of experiences in EVS. Volunteer Anna from Hungary and Tamara from Germany, came to our organization in June and stayed there for 9 months. In the process of informal learning, they got to know their own abilities, gained new skills and built their already existing knowledge to a new level, exploring the opportunities for the development of tourism and tried to find benefits that place can offer. The end result of a project was a brochure, which included mostly their own pictures and texts. The brochure 4 seasons, 3 leaves, 2 volunteers, 1 experience, in Hrastnik was also translated to Slovene language and represents diversity of the town and provides an insight into the place, customs, people and cuisine, through the eyes of volunteers. They also participated in a daily work of our youth center and helped to prepare variety of events, roundtables, children's workshops, festivals. Due to all those activities, they strengthened their organizational and communication skills. To upgrade above-mentioned skills they also prepared their own events, which included presentations of Germany and Hungary, their national cuisine, they organized two film evenings, Hungarian evening of board games and a presentation of the project and brochures. When attending local festivals they actively represented the project and EVS (they prepared quizzes, crosswords and promotional material). Their digital competences were strengthened by editing the Facebook page of the youth center and their own Facebook page Watch Out! A tourist attraction!. German volunteer helped in German language course, which was quite a challenge for her, because she was not used to teach in her mother tongue and speak carefully and slowly in a way that a beginner can understand her. Both volunteers provided two events of English conversation in local antiquary bookshop. Although both volunteers came to Slovenia with a different level of knowledge of Slovenian language, we enabled them individual Slovene lessons. German volunteer was also included in the online English language training offered by the Erasmus +. Anna and Tamara took part in local dancing Flash Mob, which was a mutual activity of EVS volunteers from Zagorje, Trbovlje, Hrastnik and Litija. In addition, it resulted in promotion of EVS and Erasmus +. EVS provides an opportunity to foster a positive attitude towards cultural differences and we encouraged them to have an active and exciting leisure time, which they mostly organized by themselves and took part in numerous cultural, sporting and social events in Hrastnik and Slovenia. Each of the volunteers had her own mentor. Together they evaluated learning experiences and they encouraged them to identify their learning opportunities during the project as well as in their free time. The biggest contribution to the dissemination of the result is a brochure in two languages (Slovene and English), which was distributed to the tourist spots in the local area and beyond. At the end of the project Anna prepared and exhibition which represents both – I months of project activities and leisure activities and it is still visible in the lobby of our youth center.
