The WMFP aims to bring together Bulgarian and Greek partners to solve a flood protection problem in Trakiets village, Haskovo region in the cross-border region Bulgaria-Greece and at the same time to support establishment of partnerships between the stakeholders in the region in the area of water management. The overall objective of the project is to improve flood protection and water management and thus to contribute to protection of the environment and to the economic growth of the cross border region. The project activities comprise works for correction of Olu Dere river bed, construction of protective dike and afforestation. Research, experience exchange activities and discussions will run in parallel. A study on the environment, water and flood issues, experience exchange visits and a round table for discussion and planning of future joint watermanagement initiatives in the cross-border region are planned. Expected Results: The project will bring 3 main results: (1) better protection of the population and the households from flooding (3) improved water management and protection and (3) partnership and joint trans-border water management as required according to the EU Water Framework Directive
