The 'Walking Against the Wind' proposal seeks to enable and empower young people from East Inishowen, County Donegal, Ireland aged 14 to 25, to actively engage at a local, regional, national and European wide level, in order to explore contributory factors to personal growth and development within a rurally isolated environment and to support young people to develop holistically, working with them to facilitate their personal, social and educational development, to enable them to develop their voice, influence and place in society and to reach their full potential. The objective of the project is to assert an awareness within the participants of their rights, roles and responsibilities at local, national and European levels in order to promote and facilitate the following:1)To explore how isolation in a rural environment affects the growth and opportunity for development of young people2) Equity, diversity and opportunity3) Promotion of fairness and community tolerance4) Encouragement of personal, communal and universal potential of young peopleThe project delivery will consist of :A series of preparatory research and information meetings to make young people aware of the aims and objectives of the project. It is envisaged that up to 50 young people from the East Inishowen area will be actively involved at the early stages of the programme. From these initial focus groups, our organisation will identify 8 to 12 young people to create a proactive Youth Advisory Panel, directed and led by young people, who will become an integral and innovative local lobbying body. These young people will undertake training in the processes of leadership, management, communication skills and committee skills. The young people along with the support and guidance of Moville and District Family Resource Centre, will host our European partners as part of a five day event, whereby we will be sharing good practice, addressing the needs that affect young people both in Ireland and Finland, site visits, cultural opportunities / events, leadership and teamwork training, discussion based workshops, culminating in a World Cafe Conference Event whereby young people from East Inishowen will organise the event by showcasing and sharing their involvement from previous initiatives whilst collaborating with our partners in promoting multicultural understanding, sense of belonging and inter cultural dialogue. By doing this, Moville and District Family Resource Centre would like to develop and foster its international networks, whilst strengthening our collaboration with our partner agency. As we are quite new to the Erasmus experience, the Moville and District Family Resource Centre are very keen that innovative programmes and initiatives should create opportunities for improving the quality and relevance of learning for young people at all levels. The establishment and pursuance of effective, equitable and relevant partnerships at a transnational level leading to international opportunities and experiences for all young people encourages the trans mobility of youth to harness international youth co-operation, non - formal education and establishing strategic partnerships. An evaluative research document will inform and guide the development of a future two to three year strategic partnership project by expanding on evolving themes and needs identified within the current proposal. The provision of opportunities to encourage effective personal and emotional growth and development in order to challenge socio - cultural attitudes and norms in order to create and realise holistic and active citizenship.
