Kärdla Kindergarten aims to provide stable and qualitive pre-school education in Kärdla. Kärdla Kindergarten is a preschool educational approach traditionally based around playing, singing, practical activities such as drawing and social interaction as part of the transition from home to school.
Public Library of Hiiu Municipality is designed to ensure free and unrestricted access to information, knowledge and culture, and to promote lifelong learning and self-improvement. Library activities are to borrow books and magazines, to help citizens find information about both domestic and foreign sources and databases, organize training courses, events, exhibitions and other activities.
The main aim of this project for Public Library of Hiiu Municipality is to increase the attractiveness of library in the community, develop IT- area in the library and organize more youth activities. All the workers in the library are female and none of them have much experience with computers. Having volunteer in the library means that he can offer something different for youngsters and there is a person who has always time for youngsters. It is important that having foreigners in our community helps to evolve tolerance among youngsters and whole community.
Public Library of Hiiu Municipality will receive volunteer from Czech Republic and he is 29 years old. Kärdla Kindergarten will host French girl who is 17 years old. Volunteer in Public Library of Hiiu Municipality will be working mostly with youngsters. He will assist teachers in hobby groups, carry out Techniques Club, Czech Club and events. He will be working 30-35 hours per week. Volunteer in Kärdla Kindergarten will play games with children, help teacher to carry out activities and events, teach visual arts and plan outdoor activities. She will be working 34-36 hours per week. Volunteers will also have Estonian lessons, reflections and meetings with mentors. Both volunteers will arrive in October and leave in June.
Partners were chosen through the coordinating organization who got help by non-profit organization EstYes. EstYes send Project details to their partners and the coordinating organization received lots of CV’s and motivation letters. One young man from Czech Republic and girl from France were chosen.
Volunteers will mostly learn organizational and group leading skills. As working with youngsters and children is challenging that is why volunteers will learn how to act with them and what activities to offer to them. They will also learn planning skills, time management, team communication and coordination, conflict management. Participants can discover new sides about themselves and they become more independent, self-conscious and competent. They can improve their skills and challenge themselves. Participants will learn Estonian language and cope with Estonian culture space. Volunteers will also acquire the skill to teach their mother tongue and national culture. The whole community become more tolerant with people from ohter countries and volunteers will enrich our community. Volunteers will bring knowledge about the systems in kindergartens and libraries in their countries with them, which helps to improve systems here and also the workers are open to new ideas and methods.
The accommodation for volunteers is held in either home housing or a private apartment. Volunteers can get a ride with kindergarten teachers and library workers to collective events in Hiiumaa, personal travels are possible by public transportation. Safety of activities is controlled and provided. Mentoring and support for volunteers is guaranteed to provide social security. Volunteers will find support from workers of the organizations. The coordinating organization has found two mentors for volunteers, who will support them outside the organization work. Choosing the work and dwelling place, it is ensured that it would support the participant the best way.
There will be regular information exchange between organization and sending organizations. There will be Skype conversations before volunteers arrive to assure the best preparation for volunteers. Every party of this project will sign the voluntary agreement. Volunteers will regularly fill in the youthpass. Sending organization will provide volunteers for preparations.
