Day centre Sauriesi, was accredited as coordinating and receiving organization in September 2012, as we wanted to receive volunteers in the day centre. As the village is quite small and everybody knows each other, the receiving of a volunteer in the day centre “Sauriesi” provided the opportunity to learn new cultures and to understand the EVS program and the volunteer gave large added value to the work of the day centre. The aim of the project was - with the means of EVS, in Stopinu area, to popularize its opportunities for local youth and to give them knowledge of other cultures and popularize EVS in the Europe and other countries.Currently day centre “Sauriesi” can host one volunteer, that has the skills and knowledge connected with the field of youth, in order that together with youth (also children) to create and participate in different, interesting for them activities, and so that the work gives good feelings about what he/she does and learns.Volunteer was allocated to everyday youth free time activities, to make more varieties in these activities with the help of non-formal activities that already happen and what volunteer will bring in the day centre. Volunteer helped and assisted activities that already happened in the organization according to the plan and gained new skills in conducting and leading them by doing. Also the volunteer acquired creative skills by participating in them and helping them to create and lead. The volunteer found out, learned Latvian traditions, culture, different national and local events and their meanings, e.g. Dance and folk festival.Village gained large and positive influence from the volunteer, and let the people learn new culture, to adopt and to respect people from other countries and to widen their view on different questions that are connected with other country people and particularly the country that the volunteer was from and to share the experience on different questions.By hosting the volunteer in the day centre “Sauriesi”, village youth gained international friend, with whom they are still communicating after the project, and play vital role in creating future co-operations in the field of youth, e.g. EVS. Volunteers arrival into our village, promoted going into EVS several from our local youth.
