Volunteering Empowerment
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Iniciativa Internacional Joven develops most of its activities at the Sociocultural Centre El Consul (which we share with a neighborhood association and an elderly association), generating an intercultural and intergenerational atmosphere, very adequate and enriching for hosting foreign volunteers. Also, the close we are to the University of Malaga and other organizations working with youth, stimulating the learning process of our european volunteers.Participating in international programs, especially in EVS, has offered our organization an added value to our work at local and international level, because the contributions and working methods provided by our volunteers during the years all this time, have improved our process and methologies, so they have enriched our work.Spite we mainly work with youths, we pay more attention to the youngsters with fewer opportunities, especially these one who have left the school, who are coming from broken families, socioeconomical problems, or live in deprived rural areas. We have already sent and hosted EVS volunteers youngsters with these difficulties and have been a great opportunity for their integral development, so this year we have decided to host eight volunteers with fewer opportunities, during a whole month in two phases, firstly from 8th June until 7th July and then from 8th July until 7th August, coming from Estonia, Italy, Ireland and Poland, in the way they can improve their self-esteem, self-confidence, and their personal and professional skills in order to facilitate their access to the labour market, and at the same time they can motivate local youth people in their same conditions to lose their fears, and dare them to volunteer in some NGO and participate in international educative programs.Amont the activities they will carry out, there will be different tasks in order to increase sensitivity about volunteerism at local and international (EVS) level. In this meaning, they will go to schools, universities and other organizations with the aim of sharing their experience, explaining the importance of being a volunteer for the society and in the Non Profit Organizations, and show people that anyone with enough motivation can be a volunteer, independently of their situation. The volunteers will also create a video about their experience, interviewing different users, local and international volunteers, etc. Also they will support our organization in workshops we develop, such us recycling or English conversations. Finally, they will have the opportunity to collaborate, twice a week, with other associations from Malaga which they will be able to choose. The main result that we hope to get with this project is that eight youth people improve their basic competences in a professional and personal level; make people from Malaga realize about the importance of volunteerism, show that everybody can participate in a volunteer activity, and make more dissemination to the Erasmus + program, motivating youngsters with fewer opportunities participate in this European program, thereby affecting the inclusion of youths with this profile. We believe that the impact of this project will be very big and not only directly in the eight hosted volunteers, also in people who participate in our activities, and in the society in general, because we will go to universities, schools, associations… The visual impact will be huge, and the media dissemination will have the video about their experience, will be published and spread in our web site and in social networks. In a long and medium period we consider that going for the participation of inclusion youngsters is very positive, not only for them personally, but also for the Sending and Hosting organizations in the EVS program, and also for the local population, because it will see as youngsters with difficulties get ahead through educative programs, flexible and adapted to their particular need of each volunteer.
