VIVRE L'EUROPE A TRAVERS LA CREATION D'UN JEU CULTUREL
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The starting point of our school plan is the will to develop within our school a concrete and long-lasting European dimension. Some projects are already in place. These include the twinning with Germany and the passion of all the teachers involved with the English language to get their pupils to experience special pedagogical moments in English. Through these somewhat isolated projects, a desire was born to develop a common project involving both linguistic and cultural elements. In order to boost this European dimension and to put in place a precise and practical project, the two teachers who are organising the project wish to reinforce their linguistic competences in English by way of immersion in a European country. Indeed, the project is to experience European Cultural Day by creating a cultural game. Each of the four classes in Cycle 3 will become partners with another class in another European country. The aim is to learn about the country from a cultural perspective and to understand the possibility to communicate, despite the language barrier, by using English. The pupils will exchange information about their respective country spanning four themes: monuments, famous people, cultural festivals and finally that of customs and traditions. This will enable them to create a question/answer card game. The realisation of this project requires various stages which will allow students to work on their linguistic, social and digital competences: • To get to know and communicate with their European partner via Skpye or email. • To formulate questions in order to get to know their partner country. • To give answers about their own country. • To group the new information discovered by mixing the classes. • The classes in Cycle 1 & 2 will work on a cultural aspect of a European country of their choice (folklore, song, storytale, food, art) which they will present on European Cultural Day. This project will allow an overall development of a number of competences presented in the official curriculum: • An increased motivation in the learning process favoured by interaction and group work. • A greater ease to talk and express themselves in English. • The ability to use I.T. as a tool in real life situations. • To develop a curiosity about and openness to other European countries. • An awareness of being a European citizen. Where the teachers are concerned, the linguistic training will allow for a greater ease of communication with the European partners and a more relevant support to the pupils. It will fuel, within the school, this desire to develop a long-lasting sense of openness and a search for new horizons at a European level.
