Vivere la Legalità in Europa
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Mar 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

“Vivere la legalità in Europa" is a long-term project for four volunteers, two from Italy for a 12 months project in Berlin, and two from Germany for a 9 months project that takes place in Palermo. The two partner organizations in this project are working to achieve similar goals: inform and create awareness within the civil society about the limits of legality, about how to participate to the public discourse as an active citizen, and about the problems of building identities, in both the country of origin and Europe. Mafia? Nein Danke! e.V. is active in Germany since 2009, especially in informing European citizens about how actual is the threat of Mafia organizations for the democratic culture in Germany and Europe. Between October and December 2014, together with the two European volunteers, the association has organised three film screenings on mafia issues, followed by a public debate with the film directors. In addition, Mafia? Nein danke! e.V. has also coordinated three lectures in schools and universities, as well as a conference with Italian and German parliamentarians on the fight against mafia and organised crime in Germany, Italy and Europa. In the second part of the project, between January and September 2015, the association organised the course of prof. Nando dalla Chiesa at the Humboldt University in Berlin about the expansion of the mafia phenomena in Europe, and coordinated numerous other conferences as well as film and book presentations on issues related to mafia, women and mafia, and legality. The volunteers, supported by their tutor, have organised and participated to the events. The week following the events was usually dedicated to its evaluation and analysis, together with the writing of articles for the association’s homepage, Facebook page and twitter. The management of social medias and communications was also part of the learning process of the two volunteers. During this 12 months project, the volunteers had the possibility to meet and exchange opinions and ideas with well-known artists, politicians, activists, lawyers as well as students and citizens. The chance to share conversations on such relevant topics with so many different people helped the volunteers to develop new interests and to widen their social and personal horizon. CE.S.I.E. has a long experience in Italy, working in the field of youth exchange programs and youth work policies. CE.S.I.E., in collaboration with the organisation “Libera Palermo”, have guided the volunteers in their work and the city of Palermo. The association hosted other volunteers in the same period, and this gave the possibility to Timo and Tabea to create easily a new social network. Libera Palermo aims to increase awareness and share information about legality, justice, and the constitutional state. Their main dedication is working with young people and adults in schools as well as in social cooperatives, which organize and administer confiscated mafia goods. Libera Palermo is also managing a special shop called “La Bottega dei Sapori e dei Saperi” where Timo and Tabea worked with great passion and responsibility. The “Bottega” organises numerous public events and distributes the products produced on confiscated goods by social cooperatives.
