In August 2014 the Danish government implemented a reform of primary and lower secondary education. The overall objective of the reform is: Each student has to do better, get a degree, participate in our society / global setting and engage in lifelong learning. The aim is to improve key competences and the skills needed in order to understand and practie what it means to be a sucessfull citizen in a democracy and thereby achieve personal fulfilment. This suggest that the educators and schools need to evolve.Norddjurs municipality has, as part of their competence development plan for the public school area, chosen to focus on Visible Learning as a teaching strategy to fulfill the requirements in the 2014 reform. Therefore, over a period of 2 years all educators in the educational sector in Norddjurs municipality have attended ongoing professional development seminars and sessions, based on John Hattie´s research on performance indicators, models of measurement and evaluation of teaching and learning. The aim of the seminars and support sessions were for the participants to develop an understanding about, which learning and evaluation strategies have the greatest impact on the individual students learning and following implement the knowledge within their teaching. However, the staff are finding it very difficult to put theory into praxis. Specifically, it is a challenge to understand, adapt (to the Danish school system) and implement John Hatties ideas on feedback and assessment for learning, which John Hattie state enhances each individual students learning outcome significantly. Therefore, Norddjurs municipality wish to send a group of 40 educators from 12 different schools to Norway. In Norway they have a school system similar to the danish. Furthermore, since 2009 they have worked systematically with John Hatties ideas on Visible learning and his concept of: Feedback and assessment for learning. In Oslo, several schools have been pilot schools, and now work as visiting schools, that organize structured courses for visitors. These introduces the teachers to new evaluation/reflection methods and allow the participants to trial these. All the participants in this project are trained professionals. Throughout the last two years, they have acted as impact coaches on their schools and guided, inspired and helped their colleagues with understanding and implementing the concepts of visible learning within their curriculum. In order to so they have attended additional courses and inspirational seminars on visible learning. We wish to carry out this project in order to ensure that 2 years of development seminars, sessions and collaboration across the municipality will not be discarded by our teachers and pedagogues due to lack of understanding and insight of John Hattie´s concepts on feedback and assessment for learning. For all members of the consortium the following staff competences and new teaching method aims apply:- To develop an understanding of how to engage with, adapt (to the danish school system) and implement John Hatties ideas on feedback and assesment for learning within the curriculum.- To enhance the level of teacher collaboration in school.- To learn how to prepare, evaluate and reflect over lessons in teams. - To develop a joint language for: assessment for learning, across the municipality.- To select appropiate methods to teacher - student feedback.- To select appropiate methods to student - students feedback.- To select appropiate methods to student - teachers feedback.- To be presented with authentic relevant new knowledge, concrete materials and activities.We expect the impact coaches to engage with new knowledge, activities and materials, which will be presented by relevant staff, reflective sessions, discussions based on concrete evaluation examples, workshops and a short school visit to experience first hand how visible learning can be implemented in praxis. Our goal is to enhance the impact coaches’ individual development, learning and teaching skills. Following the course in Norway the impact coaches will be asked to share their new knowledge at seminars and workshops. The aim is for the impact coaches to inspire their colleagues to develop goal orientated teaching methods and materials based on the concepts of visible learning: Feedback and assessment for learning. Furthermore, by developing and participating in this project, we aim to enhance positive and creative collaboration between the, impact coaches, management, teachers and pedagogues across Norddjurs municipality and at the individual schools. This consortium ´project will have a major positive impact on the schools in Norddjurs municipality. Our objective is that all the competences and experiences acquired by the participants will, over time, become a natural essential part of the individual schools’ profile and Norddjurs municipality.
