Szent Erzsébet institute is located in a small village, Ipolytölgyes in Hungary. The residents (all with special needs) of the institute have different ages (11 years to 73 years) and live in different groups, depending on their needs. The diversity of the different groups provides a unique learning environment for the students of the vocational training in "home and elderly care" at Virgo Sapiens Londerzeel, Belgium. An institution with 150 residents whose problems are very diverse, makes that the students get the opportunity to meet very different care situations in a short period of time.
The students can accomplish care tasks, monitoring tasks, animating tasks, ... in Szent Erzsébet. They learn to be flexible by a different way of working, with other possibilities and problems. They learn from the creative attitude of the nursing staff, who are trying to administer proper care by other means.
During the two weeks internship, the students can carry out lots of nursing tasks. Due to the presence of the students, the total nursing time can be shortened, allowing more time available for other activities with the residents: a walk in the park, crafts, focus on self-reliance, excursions ...
The staff of the Szent Erzsébet Institute is well prepared for the mentorship of our youngsters. They will receive a course in Belgium in training and guidance, but also in techniques that are not yet applied frequently in Hungary (basal stimulation).
