PROJECT
FINISHED
International results point to the existence of a large number of young people who hold negative health behaviors. Young people are seen as a group at particular risk of becoming involved in compromising health behaviors such as smoking, alcohol, illicit drug use, dangerous methods of diet, poor nutrition and physical inactivity. It is in this sense important that these trends are taken into account by the entities that work with youth. The objectives: to develop healthy habits and lifestyles; to provide learning tools for treating and editing content for the creation of videos; to promote mutual aid, self-esteem, responsibility and autonomy, contributing to the acquisition of personal, social and professional skills; to raise awareness of the importance of their participation in community development, fostering creativity and entrepreneurship; acquiring and/or enhancing language skills; to raise awareness of European citizenship and for sustainable growth; to provide interculturalism. Participating will be 30 young Portuguese, Italians and Dutch from 14 to 22 years old, with major indices of social exclusion, plus 6 group leaders. In this project a participatory methodology, based on non-formal and informal education techniques will be applied. The project activity will take place in the city of Viana do Castelo. In the preparation phase, an advanced planning visit will be organized, which will help to build trust and a strong partnership between the organizations and allow participants to be integrated in a more authentic way in the project design. To achieve the project objectives, a video workshop will be developed, which will allow for the acquisition of tools for the preparation of the final product and the learning of digital skills for use in academic, professional and associative life. During the activity, workshops such as "A balanced diet", "Who gives blood, really gives life!", "The importance of physical activity" and "Consumption Prevention: Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco", along with sports activities, will enable raising awareness and develop healthy habits and lifestyles in the participants. After that, participants will address the knowledge and information gathered in the actions and will prepare awareness strategies to return to their communities. They will prepare the final product that will work as promotional material for healthy habits and lifestyles. There will be visits to places of culture and nature, community and leisure time. At the end of the days, there will be a time of evaluation. Evenings are filled with dynamics that fit the project objectives. Thus, participation in the scheduled activities, besides enhancing the development of healthy habits and lifestyles, will cause an increase in information, in the feeling of being able to participate, in critical reasoning and change. Young people will gain knowledge on the subject and acquire digital tools (video) for the work, will be more aware, and will apply them to specific cases to improve a situation of dissatisfaction and trigger social change, citing possibilities for a better future. Furthermore, participation in this project will put young people in touch with different realities, such as issues of personal interaction, responsibility, cooperation and leadership. With the outlined activities, young people will acquire and/or strengthen social, civic, communication and language skills, through autonomy, self-learning and accountability. Also young people will express their personal commitment, their ideas and experiences in the activity, promoting creativity and entrepreneurship as a way to boost the economy and combat youth unemployment. All this will help them to become better students and professionals. By facilitating joint activities with participants from different cultural backgrounds, we will develop the spirit of interculturalism, solidarity, respect and tolerance.Regarding the local community, this project was planned in order to also engage the same, as well as regional organizations and entrepreneurs. Still, there will be moments to promote healthy lifestyles and habits in the community. This project will instill concerns of sustainability that the young people will use later in their lives. With regard to the associations and other participating institutions, with the ultimate video, this project will provide the dissemination of the work to benefit the well-being of young people, in particular healthy habits and lifestyles.Furthermore, the viewing of the final product may also arouse the interest and motivation of other young people to replicate the process in their territories, in order to develop them and create employment opportunities.
