Applicant organisation:Government of Lower Franconia, in cooperation with the Government of Upper and Middle Franconia. The project will be published in FIBS, which means that all teachers at vocational schools in Bavaria have access to the project and are asked to apply for it.The need for the project is a result of different developments:1. The world of work is constantly changing, which, as a result, also affects nomenclature terminology. As this development also has an effect on the native language, it necessarily needs to be addressed in language teaching as well. As English is, by curriculum, a compulsory subject in almost every type of vocational school in Bavaria, English language teachers permanently have to teach new technical terms.2. Due to the fact that a lot of teachers at vocational schools, especially in the industrial and technical education, have rather studied another natural scientific subject instead of English, there is a shortage of well-qualified English teachers in that field. Therefore teachers are often obliged to teach English though they lack the formal requirements.3. Having evaluated the Leonardo-/ Erasmus + Projects in 2011, 2012 and 2014 it is the participating teachers' burning desire to gain a deep insight into the everyday life of a Irish/ British company. The reasons being:- the participants experience the authentic Irish working environment. The experience will then be passed on to their students - the teacher's needs referring to language knowledge and technical terms can be addressed in much greater detail within a working environment than within an ordinary English course.4. The one-week language course that the teachers attend before their work-placements includes contents that are part of the curriculum as well as general language skills , such as writing business letters, English literature etc.Partner Organisation: Internships Ireland, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Internships Ireland, created in 2008 and located in Dublin provides a specialised service designed to help European students and teachers to find internships/placements in Ireland at any time throughout the year. Besides Internships Ireland collaborates with a number of establishments, which are mostly located in Europe, but also in the US and Australia. The organisation is involved with the realisation of language courses, with the placement in operations side companies, with organisational issues the participants might have during their stay in Dublin and the selection of accomodation, in certified guest families. This application refers to a two-week project from 23rd of October 2016 to 5th of November 2016 (1st flow) and 22nd of October 2017 to 4th of November 2017 (flow 2). The first week will be a language course to "reactivate" the participant's language skills and to prepare the participants for the following work-placement. The second week will be a one-week work-placement in a company that is particularly relevant to the teacher's specific field of teaching.The project will be taking place in Dublin, Republic of Ireland (first week) and in companies in and around the Dublin region (second week).After having participated in the project, the teachers will have significantly improved linguistic, technical, didactic and methodological skills with regard to the education in the subject "English" due to the language course. The work placement following the language course helps to acquire linguistic and linguistic-technical skills. In addition, the participants will develop an in-depth understanding of the country and people. Experiences that will in many ways result in interesting and motivating lessons. The Government of Lower Franconia also expects an improvement with regard to intercultural skills and methodological expertise.In addition to these individualized progress, the participating teachers are expected to form closer networks both within our own governmental district as well as all over Bavaria. As a result of those networks , more international cooperation and expertise will be build up at vocational schools, which, in the long run, will lead to better qualifications of students and to the increasing internationalisation of vocational schools.
