PROJECT
FINISHED
“Hosting the world” is a collaboration between Escuela Hecansa in Gran Canaria and Romsdal Upper Secondary school in Molde. 12 students and 2 apprentices (will) complete 2 x 3 weeks through their second year at Tourism in Gran Canaria. Hecansa sends 3 apprentices to Molde for practical work in a 5 months parallel project.
The purpose of the project is to strengthen the students understanding of international tourism as well as increase their motivation to finish their education with a certified completed apprenticeship.
In the Canarian autumn holiday Norwegian students will move into the Hecansa hall of residence and get their training in language and culture offered by Norwegian and Spanish teachers at the school. In this way the students will make the foundation for the Spanish language and cultural knowledge during 3 weeks in September 2015.
Both schools are preoccupied with situated learning where the students build their occupational identity by participating in daily tasks in an educational environment. Hecansa’s 4 training hotels will be such learning areas for 3 weeks in March 2016.
This project stands out by first going through a school-based training in language and culture before it then uses the knowledge accomplished in real work experiences. Moreover the collaborators in this project plan to offer a third level for apprentices where the students get a more extensive practice period (in Gran Canaria) in cooperation with Hecansa, local enterprises in Gran Canaria and the employers of the Norwegian apprentices.
