VERSO LA NUOVA CITTA' DELLA SCIENZA
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Towards Città della ScienzaThis project was born from the intention to use the training opportunities offered by Erasmus + within the largest reconstruction project of the Science Centre of Città della Scienza, supported by the Italian Government in the broader framework of the rehabilitation plan of the whole area of Bagnoli as well, since besides having as its main mission the spread of the culture of science, technology and innovation, Città della Scienza promotes also the culture of "doing" related to science and technology with real impact for the local context in terms of creation of enterprises, development and employmentThis project will end in 2018 and will schedule several milestones which consist in the launch of the Fab Lab in the end of March 2016, the opening of Corporea a new exhibition floor dedicated to the Human Body and the opening of the Planetary Dome3D at the end of 2016.With this reconstruction project Città della Scienza intends to become again one of the most important science centre in Europe and, for this purpose, the strengthening of its “capabilities” in the planning, scheduling and promotion of the activities is necessary in order to improve its public programs and increase the number of visitors, particularly the adults. Therefore, such activities, beyond addressing the usual target groups of the schools and children, must also call upon the adult audience by leveraging new contents and communication methods. To achieve this goal it is necessary for Città della Scienza to look at other European organizations working in these areas with recent rennovation programs. This project therefore proposes six activities which seek to enrich the knowledge of those professionals that are considered strategic for the future Città della Scienza since they will be an essential part of the new programs and offers. The issues of interest for the staff of the Città della Scienza have been identified, also in relation to their training needs:1. Design and realization of interactive exhibits2. Programming of the activities and events specifically dedicated to adult audience3. Marketing, promotion and benchmarking in order to reach adult audienceThe project is divided into six activities. The first two activities will be for the participation to the annual conference of the Science Centre Ecsite Network to be held in Austria; the other 4 shadowing / observation activities will be held in museums/companies in Europe that in these areas represent a relevant references: the Science Park of Granada, Waag in Amsterdam, Kopernicus Center in Warsaw, the German Museum of Monaco of Bavaria.Regarding the scheduling, the observation period will be held at Parque de las Ciencias of Granada, the Iberian centre which is deeply involved in scheduling activities in the field of adult education, has a big permanent exhibition about health issues and human body issues.Regarding the development of exhibits and museology, the mobility action will be done at the Deutches Museum in Munich, a prestigious worldwide institution in the scientific field involved today to the renovation of its exhibition galleries according to new methods and formats of science communication such as the integration of research activities and digital making fabrication in its public programs.Concerning the development and maintenance of exhibits, an observating period will be held at Kopernicus in Warsaw, one of the most recent workshop of interactive exhibits, with interesting public programs on science communication connecitng art and science. Finally, the visit at WAAG in the Netherlands will allow to consider the involvement of new audiences in creative activities based on makers methodologies. These “observing periods” represent an excellent opportunity to see some samples of different typologies of public programs for the adult audience that Fondazione IDIS aims to achieve in the near future. These observing visits will be strategic in the acquisition of knowledge for the enhancement of public scientific programs of Città della Scienza addressing adults, both in terms of quality than quantity able in order to reach the target goal of 500,000 visitors a year.
