VerdeCam Santiago is a Youth-Exchange Program promoted and developed entirely by its young participants. The main purpose is to develop competencies and skills that will help them care for our environment and be aware of climate change. This will take place in the exceptional surroundings of the Camino de Santiago, a place that combines both history and plurality of cultures in Europe. We believe that the range of environments and landscapes the Camino offers will be a perfect location for our main objective. The program will include a total of 24 young people from several places of Poland and Spain, some of them with economic and geographic difficulties. The program’s activities will provide a non-formal education methodology. These activities will bring together young people from different cultural backgrounds, will raise awareness of the need to protect the environment and will encourage dialogue between the participants about the real problems of each country, establishing bonds of friendship, sportsmanship, solidarity and fellowship. English will be the commonly used language. With this program we intend to achieve a wide amount of results, some of which include learning in healthy environments, the improvement of social skills and the growth of language skills, to boost their initiative to be promoters of change, to increase the commitment of protecting the environment, to enhance the ability to analyse, to appreciate other cultures and to foster a sense of belonging to Europe. With the outcome of these results we pretend to influence not only the young participants, but also their closest surroundings. We foster them to become transforming agents of change. The benefits of the program will be sustainable, as the developed skills and knowledge acquired by the young participants will encourage an active attitude in the knowledge and awareness of the care of the environment in Europe. They will not forget their lessons, each group will spread the word in their country of origin.
