Valuebased educationHeneskolan has worked for two years with valuebased education. Dr Neil Hawkes from England visited our town Skövde and told us about the method that teaches children good behaviour and give them better results in school. Heneskolan has already good results among the pupils but they haven´t increased compared to some years ago.We do need to develop our teaching skill using valuebased methods as we now have started. The teachers need to develop their skills and their ability of the method. We have been in contact with four schools in London by visiting them last autumn 2014. This project, from autumn term 2016 until spring term 2018, means that teachers on our school will jobshadowing a colleague in London for two days. We want to see and learn how they practically and naturally bring the values into their teaching and allow our students to practise their skills. The teachers at our school have all a university exam. We think that at least about half of our 40 teachers will be able to have the opportunity to follow an English teacher for two days. When the project is over we intend to compare our students´ results to earlier results. We will also study the violation reports that our headmaster receives and from them see if they have changed in any way. In the Education Act there is a chapter that will ensure security and study environment for the pupils. We believe that valuebased education is the right way to achieve the demands made on school. In the curriculum, Lgr 11, there are, in chapters 1 and 2 clear instructions on how to help students develop their skills to become good citizens in our society. Valuebased education shows how to live together and feel alright and at the same time develop the individual person as good as possible. In long terms we may change and stop the defection from Elementary School and High School that has increased lately in Swedish schools. The project will also give us tools receiving newly arrived students in a good way. To them and to our pupils it is important to receive a common set of values to integrate them in a successfully way. With this project all the staff at Heneskolan will develop a common set of values that will strengthen the Staff Collective and contribute to a better working environment for both students and staff.
