At, the upper secondary school, Per Brahegymnasiet in Sweden, the Hotel and Tourism programme has a project which is called “Internship abroad at the Hotel and Tourism Programme 2016-2018”. On behalf of this project, please accept this as an application for funds through Erasmus+. The aim of this project is to make our students more employable within the Hotel and Tourism industry, in Sweden as well as abroad. By allowing our students the opportunity to experience a period of internship abroad during their training, we will be able to provide them with in depth knowledge of the industry as well as invaluable experience. We believe that this project will provide the students with an even better education. We also would like to help create a more positive view of the European Union in our region, help improve the unemployment figures for young adults and increase the mobility of young adults in the EU. In total, we would like to send 30 students, from our Hotel and Tourism programme during 2016 - 2018, to our preferred destinations Budapest, Hungary, and western Crete in Greece. For four weeks, in either May or September, the students would complete training in a hotel or tourism related company, and share accommodation with the other students. One of our qualified teachers would join the students for the first week, and the students would thereafter get the opportunity to take responsibility for themselves, with the support from our local contacts, locally established receiving companies. We have around ten partner companies in Crete and around ten partner companies in Budapest. These companies help us and our students to get our needs met and to reach our goals. In order for the students to have a training period which is as educational and useful as possible, it is important to prepare them for what to expect. At the Hotel and Tourism Programme we try to prepare the students in different ways. Among other things, we bring in lecturers with experience in working in Hungary and, or Greece, we discuss and use exercises of an intercultural nature and we provide an informational briefing for the students and their parents in good time before departure. We believe that the results of this project will involve the students, apart from learning more about the industry, getting in depth knowledge about their chosen profession, once they have finished their studies. The students will be more employable as they will have experience in working abroad and, through this, they will also have improved their language skills and their intercultural understanding. We hope and believe that this project will spread, not only in our school, but also, to the local council as well as other Hotel and Tourism Programmes in Sweden. In the long run we believe that our programme will be associated with quality, as we, amongst many other things, have an international profile with work placement abroad. Our students, with their international experience, will be attractive on the job market, and they will not see any problems with applying and working outside Sweden, in an ever increasingly united Europe.
