Uns wird gleich ganz anders
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Article 21 in the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union states that any discrimination „based on any ground such as sex, race, colour, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion, membership of a national minority, property, birth, disability, age or sexual orientation shall be prohibited.“ In our daily lives we are nevertheless confronted with discrimination - at school, work, apprenticeship place, in our free time or increasingly in social media. To experience and/or observe discrimination leads to a queasy feeling. In Tyrolean dialect this feeling can be described in the words of the title of the project: “Uns wird gleich ganz anders”. The project aims to oppose the feeling of nausea and helplessness. It will show affected people ways of coping and will raise awareness among people who are rarely involved in this topic. This was done by a campaign against discrimination which was created by young people. The campaign was prepared by young people between 16 and 25 years in two places (Wörgl in North Tyrol, Austria and Bruneck in South Tyrol, Italy). The young people were able to get to know each other and exchange experiences and ideas in a first meeting. In the subsequent Workshops and meetings they worked on the final products of the campaign. The aim of those products was to draw attention to the various forms of discrimination. The workshops, which were interactive and based on non-formal learning, were supervised by capable trainers and experts who were able to give support and advice. Finally the campaign consisted of several different products. There were placards, a photo exhibition, roll-ups, a website for information and a dance performance, which was presented live and is also available on youtoube.com. Planning and implementing the campaign together strengthened the self-confidence of the participants, encouraged their creativity and demanded organizational skills. Developing specific and visible results/products was a big motivation for the young people and gave them the possibility to present their matters of interest to the public and to participate in society.
