The Youth’s Society and Politics Festival (YSPF) is inspired by ”Folkemødet”, Denmark’s Political Festival on Bornholm, but specifically tailored around young people and their semester plan. “Folkemødet” takes place in June during the exam period of all the upper secondary education institutions, and therefore makes it impossible for many young people to attend. YSPF takes place in Copenhagen and lasts for two days. The components of the festival is a main stage with high-profiled talks and debates, several large tents for problem-solving and dialogue-oriented sessions with young people and decision makers and finally a festival ground with stalls from a great variety of organisations in the political sphere, where a more casual dialogue can take place. The content of YSPF will be arranged so the upper secondary educations can credit the students’ participation in accordance with the upper secondary education legislation and ministerial demands.
The ambition of the event is to empower the youth to participation in the democratic dialogue and intensify the acquaintance with some of the essential societal institutions and organisations. Organisationally, the goal is a yearly returning and financially viable event. The general support for the project has so far been overwhelming with expressions of interest from twelve upper secondary education institutions (representing around 7.000 students), several politicians, companies and different organisations.
