PROJECT
FINISHED
The aim of the application is to strengthen the relationships on other cultural areas between the people living on the both sides of the border. They can reinforce the self-consciousness of the nationalities by supporting the bilingualism and advance the prosperous long term cooperation between the two partners and other border settlements too. The partners plan to organise and support numerous programmes and visits whose main theme will be based on the religious heritage but will allow a large view to the typical gastronomic (e.g. Rétes festival) and other traditions (e.g. Serbian patronal festival) too. The application is connected also to the cycle track project HUSRB/0901/111/095 which is also implemented in the cooperation of the two partners. The investments and renovations planned to be realized in the framework of the application symbolize well the strength of the collaboration and extend the possibilities of cultural relationships. Achievements: The more equally joined two communities are, the stronger their relationship is. The project partnership representing this position organised a multifaceted series of programmes in both countries. The main theme, the connecting link between Újszentiván, in Hungary, and Novi Kneževac, in Serbia, was religious heritage, but they widened the scope of their activities, incorporating typical cuisine and other traditions into the project as well. The partners started their common work from scratch: they published a trilingual publication about the project and placed 10 information signs, namely settlement maps, to help local people and tourists and their way to the places where the festivals were organised more easily. Two festivals were organised in Újszentiván: the Rétes Festival and the Serbian Patronal Festival. These events familiarised the general public with the customs and cultures of the project partners, strengthened the relationships between the people living on both sides of the border in other cultural areas, harmonised cultural differences, supported multilingualism and advanced prosperous long-term cooperation between the two partners and other border settlements. The Serbian partner, as part of the 8th Chamber Music Festival Tisa Flower, organised 8 concerts in the local library and the Music School in Novi Kneževac, with participation of a total of 1000 visitors. Besides the various programmes, the partners renovated the roof of the building next to the mortuary and placed two wooden headboards dedicated to the cooperation in Újszentiván. The exterior of the community building was fully renovated and the interior (the reading room), which hosts different cultural programmes in Novi Kneževac, was partially renovated. The diverse range of programmes attracted different types of audiences, thus the project partners succeeded in reaching as many people as possible. The projects less palpable, but nevertheless significant results are new personal and professional contacts in the border region, which will serve as the basis for further cooperation.
