Übergange im Elementarbereich - ein europäischer Vergleich zur Gestaltung
Start date: Sep 12, 2016, End date: Sep 11, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Child care workers are continuously challenged with increasing professional demands. They are confronted to encourage and optimize welcoming, integrational and educational processes for children and adolescent especially for immigrated adolescents and families. Thereby they have to react adequately to the significant life changes of immigrants, refugee families and unaccompanied minor refugees. They are required to professionally support these normative and personal transitions and to contemplate their actions and to make their intentions obvious. During their child-care vocational training these abilities and competencies have to be initiated effectively. The examination of transition concepts and a work placement in a European organization of the elementary sector are especially suited to abet this goal and offer an initial access. As a result of the increasing professional demands of the graduates it is necessary to broaden the teaching staff’s knowledge in transition concepts in a European comparison and to upgrade their skills in a systematic curricular enhancement according to competences. Therefore the project addresses the child care apprentices in their first year and the teaching staff. 20 students a year can complete a 5-week internship in a kindergarten in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, The Netherlands, Czech Republic or Croatia and Malta (cooperations initiated). The teaching staff will be in the partner organisations for 2 days to job shadow and to develop a new ECVET-learning unit for the project topic with the pedagogical staff. The project goals for the apprentices contain organisational, professional-vocational, and intercultural competences:- to extend the skills of independently organising assignments abroad and their vocational mobility,- to gain country-specific knowledge of concepts and enactments in early years education,- intercultural sensitivity and competences i.a. in terms of an altered perception and accordingly alterations in thinking and actions,- the willingness to work in organisations with a high percentage of migrants (groups with diverse clientele),- to recognise intercultural problem areas as such and to work out concrete solutions instead of lapsing into stigmatisations and misinterpretations,- to experience and to get to know cultural characteristics through everyday experiences and collegial encounters as a special form of informal education,- to realise how important foreign language skills are for the day-to-day work. For the teaching staff the project goals are:- to experience a professionalization through the assignment abroad,- to increase the willingness of further education in the areas of intercultural and comparative pedagogy,- to experience and to get to know cultural characteristics through everyday experiences and collegial encounters as a special form of informal education,- to enhance the abilities in developing assignments and evaluation material for work placements,- to strengthen the skills of passing on the understanding of intercultural approaches and to transform these. The school principle is the project manager and the main contact person for the partner organisations. The teaching staff is in charge of the support of assigned students and they are the contact person during the internships. All participants receive a participant agreement with an ECVET-learning agreement that has been agreed with our partner organisations. In the partner organisations assigned staff or the directors are in charge of the professional-vocational supervision of the interns. On-site they will offer assistance for all cultural and practical questions when needed. We are aiming for effects on several levels. Locally we want to expand our offer as a vocational school and to promote our profile. Most importantly we want to foreground the interest and the relevance of vocational mobility and its possibilities. On an international level we want to illustrate the quality of our vocational education and to pursue our cooperation with our partner organisations to create room for lifelong learning with an intercultural context. Two essential goals are the passing-on of the practical experiences with its recorded quality development as well as the expansion of mobility activities to other schools of the Institut für soziale Berufe Stuttgart gGmbH.
