The CROSSING BORDERS Project in the city Herzogenrath in the western Euregio part of Germany at the German-Dutch border. The project brings 53 Maltese and German Youth together to develop a crosscultural performance based on music, songwriting, rap and hiphop and artistic forms of dealing with the matter of border crossings in several workshop groups. Literally and as symbol, borders are places that can initiate self reflections e.g. on accepting or refusing them.
Based on a structure and development of intercultural sensitivity in the medium of musical and cultural debate about style and genres in music and art production, the young people use pluralistic approaches to the idea of cultural boundary crossings. The project takes place 70 years after the end of WW2 and follows the idea of working together by the means of perception and production of modern classical music and popular musical an cultural statements in youth cultures. As Citizens of the European community that share specific values of mutual respect the young people will be introduced into the competences of active expressing themselves in their own written songs and sounds. The Youth develop core competences of openness and tolerance in dealing with historical and contemporary musical and artistic manifestations. The Project aims at fostering key competences in cultural education programs and offers the oppertunity to exchange cultural expiriences.
