Učíme mládež orientovať sa v EÚ
Start date: Apr 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Slovaks and Czechs are back to Europe, but are we alone or together? After 1989 Czecho-Slovakia started to build democratic system, but at the beginning of this process country has split up in 1993. In 2004 both countries met in the EU again. Although above-standard relations were declared, there is a lack of real contacts between the Slovaks and Czechs on the European level. Even after the accession to the EU some differences appeared (acceptance of Euro in Slovakia and its refusal in the Czech Republic), but some things connect us – low interest in European affairs that was visible during the last elections in the European parliament and often low quality of formal and informal education on modern history (after 1989), European integration and active participation do have minimal space in the formal educational process. Main aim of this project for youth workers was to contribute to understanding of the EU integration process among young people. To understand historical context from which recent EU arise. Understanding of the context helps young people to participate more. This aim was reached through mobility project for youth workers that have key influence on young people. Criteria for the selection of youth workers are: gender equality, different age groups, equal representation and willingness to participate actively in this project and contribute to dissemination and use of the project's outcomes. Aim was accomplished through: characterization and evaluation of recent form of formal and informal education of modern Czech and Slovak history after 1989 and European Union; exchange of experiences and examples of good practice; introduction of innovative and improved way of operation toward youth in education about the EU and creation of a network of Slovak and Czech youth workers (organisations). Key activity was a seminar for ten youth workers from the Czech Republic and ten youth workers from Slovakia. Seminar combines discussions, lectures, workshops, self-reliant work, exchange of examples of good practice, visit of Methodology and Pedagogy Centre and school. Youth workers are one of the grassroots elements in youth education and creation of awareness about the EU. This education will be improved thanks to the use of good practice examples and thanks increase of quality of their work. There will be strengthened international element in education and youth workers and youth will understand more situation in neighbouring country and network of Slovak and Czech youth workers will be established. Outcomes of the project will be disseminated and can serve as source of inspiration for another youth workers and their organisations, that can lead to better understanding of the EU and more active participation (not only) within the EU.
